i have a pretty wide question...
whenever imake a map and it runs all good.. when i strart to to play it.. its very laggy. it has very low fps.. does anyone know where i can get a guide to fix that?

Open the console and type r_speeds 1 and developer 3. If your w_poly hits around 800, it's ok. Over 800/900 it gets laggy.

maby u have something running in background? if xp press ctr+alt+del and look at the cpu (bottom) and look for something that might be taking all the spu (anti virus programs, firewalls, other games, aol, ect)

no thats not the problem
its just that other maps run fine for me and my friends
but when we play my map.. the fps is like 12 and works laggishly (wierd word)

Did you check your r_speeds as I instructed?

Ummm if your map is to large= lag
To much going on=lag
Crap computer=lag
Tell us about your map abit and we might help a bit more, how large is it etc.

ok.. i checked the r_speeds most of the map its the w_poly like 820... and sometimes more but even then the map is SOO laggy
like for exapmle.. u know when u crouch ur crosshair gets smaller..
well it takes about 7 seconds for it to get smaller ..
the fps in the whole map is from a range of 5fps-12fps.. and sometimes the w_poly is like 1000.. but rarley.. its mostly bellow 900

ah, counter strike. for a start, try things like gl_wireframe 2 (if your running opengl mode, which you should) and see if theres any face splitting. if there is make the complex brushes responsible into func_walls.

What are your system specs? On a low end system with 900-1k wpoly it may cause severe lag.

w_poly = World polygons. (World brushes in hammer [ie non entity brushes])

r_speeds = Render speeds.

VIS = Visibility program of the compiling process.

RAD = Radiant (lighting) program of the compiling process.

func_wall = function_wall, SolidEntity. Very flexible, used from anything from fences to light fixtures.

gl_wireframe 2 = console command used to draw your map in wireframe.

Brush splitting = Part of the map where two world brushes intersect and split, as all brushes in a single entity split each other, and the world is treated as a single entity.

Did I miss something?

ooh... alright.. i get it now.. but still dont understand why my maps lagg so much.. ill try turning everything into a func_wall.. see if it runs more smoothley

i hav experienced lag sumtimes and as above im just going to say similar things either

1. ur running too many programs which is unlikely
2. ur comp is so full it need to be defragged and maybe sum stuff u dont need to be deleted
3.uve got too much stuff on ur map (too many entities that get complicated lag it)
4.all of the above

well thats all i can say sorry if it doesnt work im sure if you keep trying ull come through it ;)

It's not just entities. Lots of complex brushes or decals can lag maps too.

I called RAD Radiant, the name of the Doom/Quake editor, and not Radiosity. Hence my remark on doom editing.
