Can anyone tell me how to make a grate that will move with a fun_door_rotate? I know how to use a func_illusionary bursh, with a clip bursh and a func_monsterclip brush, but how do I make them all rotate with a door? Thanks.

Dude, use func_door_rotating_instead of func_illusionary. texture it with grate1 or another one of those grate textures, and set the 'Render mode' to 'Solid' and 'FX Amount' to 255. Add an ORIGIN brush too... you do know what one is right? Ok so after you've done everything with the func_door_rotating, crate a new brush and texture it with the ORIGIN texture. Then place the brush on the side of the grate where the hinges should be. And place it in the middle of that side... then select the ORIGIN brush, hold down Ctrl, and while holding down, select the func_door_rotating. Both the ORIGIN and door brushes should be selected now. Click 'To Entity' (top right) and in the small window click Yes. Oh and um... look at the properties of the door afterwards to set it's axis. If you don't follow me much.... then see the "Doors" tutorial on this site for further reference on creating doors.

Oh and um... after your done with that, you should delete the monsterclip, clip or whateverclip brushes around your door :)

You know... You could make your OWN grate out of cylinders. Sure its not to friendly on the piece count, but its not that many pieces. Then tie it to a func_door_rotating.

Um, if you want a door and then a grate window bit, you need 2 func_door_rotating with origins at the same location.

Ah, I have it figured out now. You see, I wanted a grate on the door that could be shot through, like the one in office complex that leads to the room where the scientist gets pulled into the vent. The one with the television? Anyway, I found out that you can't shoot through that grate. I guess you can't make a clip brush that rotates with the door after all. Yes, I know all about origin brushed, however. Welp, I guess that's it. Thanks for your help!

You could make the door 'Not Solid' or 'Passable' and then it could be shot through.

Don't see why it needs a clip brush, if it's that small of a hole.

Sort of like a fence, its strips of metal at 90 degrees to eachother.
