currently being worked on, although there is a little pic above the map with things like hl, tfc, cs written on it. if people would remember to set thee (ahem, hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink.)

You know somebody is serious enough with their maps when they have everything configured and explained properly ;)

Posted 20 years ago2004-08-25 16:19:19 UTC Post #54005
er... If the author bothered to put a description, fill in all the details etc you know that someone spent time on their map.
Time = Quality in mapping.

the ten commandments of TWHL

1: Though shall insult maps, not mappers.

2: Though shall map.

3: Though shall not spam.

4: Though shall make thread titles relate to the material inside.

5: Though shall not put any other sites before this one.

6: Though shall respect others. No flaming.

7: Though shall not spread your personal opinions, this is a mapping site.

8: Though shall not put crap in the map vault.

9: Though shall not rate ones map more than once.

10: Though shall give Brattylord credit for this list.

Sorry... this is my OPINION...

11. Thy will punctuate properly, lest others believe care be not taken.

11 should replace 10 IMO :D

Oh, under rule 11, BL has betrayed the laws. It is Thou not Though....

Grammar critisism seems to be 'in' this season. But hey! Did it ever go OUT of fashion?

But I agree with kol. Imagine if all the documentation and in-game text was put together like this: "weelcome 2 blak mesa w00t!!1!" and so forth... I would have burned my CD and salted the earth thereafter, brilliant game or no.

The way you type is like body language for computers. And I just happen to be of the opinion that the "w00t"-ing conjures the image of a scruffy preteen and lacking any professionalism. That isn't a snipe at anyone in particular or their maps, its a general statement that applies to all instances where crappy grammar is used, even in IRC.
Posted 20 years ago2004-08-27 08:41:02 UTC Post #54467
That's a good point Mephs. The only excuses that I see fit to deny a member using correct grammer are:

1.) English is not their natural language
2.) They are uneducated.

If you do not fall into any of these reasons then shame on you! Take the time to type out your questions and comments correctly. It'll do you good, trust me! ;)

very good point, but im annoyed that you can get slowhacked on particular svencoop servers for spelling the admin's name wrong, that is taking it a bit TOO far :P

"uneducated" meaning "no schooling above the third grade". yknow, that age when all the little retards find out about cs and think leet speak is really cool. my heart bleeds from the teachers who hear nothing in class but "I 0wnz j00 4t my sumz!!!1!! omgrofl!!"

im straying off topic...

I know full well, and if you paid more attention to my posts and MSN/IRC you will have observed my Steinbeckesque habits in some phonetic typing for a friendly familiarity feel :P (whilst maintaining correct grammer. Take heed those for whom desire of mild colloquialism is employed as an excuse for failing to do so).

Oh, and @Ant, I'm fairly sure that there should have been a semicolon after the first item of your list awhile back ;)

it's not that crappy, it can run DOOMIII, (yay!!).
I speak regular english like everybody else, just because i live in britain doesn't mean i talk like "Pip, Pip Cheerio, good game Nigel." I talk like regular americans err... and german.

well how you two can class "american" as "english" is just fucking beyond me...

Ach aye, ministeve. If an American wants to take the elevator to the second floor in the UK, things get very confusing. ;)

heh. many an american has been met with shock as he finds he cant drive on the "interstates" because, frankly, theres no states to go "inter" between :)

The only excuses that I see fit to deny a member using correct grammer are:

1.) English is not their natural language
2.) They are uneducated.
There is a third (in my opinion) valid reason and that is to maneuver around the censorship rules on a webpage... 4uck censorship.

But if anyone's uneducated, this thread provides an excellent starting point to get your grammar straight.

I take special care to use proper grammar because English is not my native tongue. I consider myself well educated now, and I take pride in any given opportunity to use the language in its proper form.

Misspellings also get on my nerves, but perchance that's just my obsessive-compulsive disorder acting up.
