Naw I know about how to upgrade all that. I actually kinda do have the money from bday and christmas to do it, but I dont really know if I want to. I'm kinda saving up for a motor-cycle when I get my licence (I know its 2 years away but I really gotta save). I am probably going to have to do some stuff to my computer though cause its so screwed up, I've had so many virus's and problems latley I am about to just format my hard drive.

Who said it's 30 september? Can you back that up with an official Valve statement?
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-03 17:30:20 UTC Post #56319
Actually I have wanted to know that myself but I have heard from lots of people thats when its coming out ... I do find it strange that there is no official valve statement about this though, I guess I'll email them.
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-03 17:33:38 UTC Post #56320
When there's no statement, it's not true. Those people probably mistake the year 2003 for 2004. Remember the release date originally was 30 sept. 2003?

Release Date : 11/4/2004
: Nov. 4 2004 (for those who dont know their months)
I guess that would be the correct date :(

Valve knows best about their product so I'd believe them more than such a site. Not that release dates are very reliable... I always like how PC Gameplay puts it: "Release dates: The most recent list of lies". ;)

Best buys site is screwed up when it comes to cookies, you just need to refresh/close and open it a couple times. I think this is the real deal though... But they are idiots for saying that it doesnt have internet (at leasts thats what I think it means, or they could be saying you need steam for internet)

I dont understand the preloading and then buying online thing myself... Why would you spend 50 dollars (im assuming that would be the cost of it) to just be able to download it... Getting a cd is so much more worth it... Is it possible for you to get the activation and get the cd when it comes out?
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-05 12:16:40 UTC Post #56703
I have no idea. I just think this preload idea is for overweight americans who're too tired to go buy a fucking game box.

Wow you both are really sad if you dont have enefough space :/
lol yeah us overweight american pigs... I dont know I am kinda crazy about HL2 and I might buy it pre-loaded and if I can't also get a cd with that I might buy it in stores too, just because it sounds like the pre-loaded one might come out like a month earlier! In fact right now I am going to email steam about that (If I can get a cd with buying it online).
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-06 03:49:44 UTC Post #56868
I'm preloading it in the hope that Captain P is right and that you can use a boxed version's code to unlock it. Avoids the possibility of multiple Steam installs (one is bad enough).

My bestbuy thing said the same thing, just 3 days later.
I posted in the Steam forums about all this. If you buy it online you get a some sort of activation key for your steam account. You don't get a cd or anything, and if you have to re-install it, you just log on to steam (anywhere) and download it, kinda like preloading, but not.
If you buy it on steam you do not get it a minute earlier than from when it is released in stores.
All of the dates that are on game sites (bestbuy.com and ebgames.com) are all just estimates. THOSE ARE NOT official release dates.
(all of this is combined from steam support and the friendly truthful people of steams forums)

Yes.

davideo: I don't visit the Steam forums as there was such an insane amount of posting that threads disappeared in minutes. Do you know if you could find out whether Captain P is right, and that a boxed-CD code can be used to unlocked the preloaded version of HL?? I'd be very very grateful :)

Q) If I pre-load halflife 2 and then I go and buy the game in stores, can I use the cd-key that I bought from the store to activate the one on steam?

A)Yup. you can do that.

You know whats funny? Someone replied to that less than 10 seconds after I posted it. So that I dont lose the topic, I have them send me an email when a reply is posted, and the email comes with a link.

Seventh:

"The moment the game is made available, those who have pre-loaded and purchased Half-Life 2 via Steam will be ready to start playing right away."

Since you buy a CD-key trough Steam, it sounds obvious you can use your CD-key that came with the box you bought too... :)

It's so obviously a marketing ploy. There is no such benefit gained from pre-loading hlaf-life 2. If you thinki about it, what's the deal? You wont be able to play the pre-load shit! VALVe are just using the pre-load thing as a way of making sure people have no choice but to buy it when it is released. They are basically attempting to create a sort of 'hype' surrounding hl2 so that people stick with their product. It works, that's why they are doing it.
Posted 20 years ago2004-09-13 09:50:43 UTC Post #58935
You can only start with the next pre-load after it has been initiated. Right now there have been 3 pre-loads, the first includes the materials, the second holds the sounds and the third is for the models. So there'll be more pre-loads yet to come.

Jahzel, quit it. You don't have to buy HL2 if you don't want to.
