I'm doing "In the Beginning Part 2" now. Setup and part 1 didn't go entirely smoothly (for example, running with Steam), but I managed to get the purple box. With part 2, I managed to change the texture of the box, but then the map exits immediately (the game doesn't get into it at all). I suspect (though have no way of knowing) it's because the texture is 80x80 (there's no way I'd be able to select the texture you mentioned, because the drop down list cuts all the names -- so I just picked one that starts the same). I tried to change the texture, but now I can select only one wall at a time. The tutorial said "Select your cube. Only got one wall? Click on the Ignore Group button." The button doesn't change a thing. What do I do?

Well, you've apparently either:

1. Ended up in the Texture Application mode (which, heedless of the title, isn't what you want right now);

2. Ungrouped the sections of your cube by clicking the wrong toolbar button;

3. Not followed the instructions properly;

You can of course just hold down Shift and click the objects to select more than one, when they're ungrouped. Alternatively, strive along like that for a bit and keep following the tutorials, it's no big deal when you're doing tiny maps, and by the time you start mapping properly you'll've sorted it out through practise, experimentation and reading tutorials.

Trust that helps.

Unfortunately, the tutorial explains (right after what I quoted) how to open Texture Application mode, and then explains how to apply using that dialogue (and that actually worked). So if that's the wrong place to be where's the right place?

BTW, thanks for the quick reply.

I deleted and recreated the cube, and it works fine now. However, that's not the kind of solution I like.

Ah, sorry - when I followed that tutorial I don't remember mention of the texture application tool at all! :)

Try the button just below Texture Application, that applies the current texture to the entire of the selected solid.

Sorry for the slower reply this time.
