I have tried continously to make The Valve Hammer Editor work. It just doesn't seem to want to compile things. It gives me these errors every time I try.

c:program filessteamsteamappssnobusiness@aol.map

first of all, hammer has problems getting past the @ in your username. either read the steam setup tutorial or get a new steam account (the newer accounts dont use an email adress).

secondly, why are you trying to compile your steam ID? you should be looking in c:program filessteamsteamappssnobusiness@aolHalf-Lifevalvemapsmapname.map or counter-strikecstrikemapsmapname.map

btw: its much better to use the rmf. file for a compile.

He's not trying to compile his Steam ID, it just says that since its choking on the @.

And you can't compile rmfs. The compilers like map files.

Game Executable Directory = C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppssnobusiness@aol.comcounter-strike
Mod Directory = C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppssnobusiness@aol.comcounter-strikecstrike
Game Directory = C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppssnobusiness@aol.comcounter-strikevalve

This is where everything is set to compile under game configurations
I've tried using the substitute command in DOS but it gives me errors as well. I've tried to set up everything correctly according to the tutorials.

Well I tried getting a new account, but now there aren't any games in the Play Games menu, only codename gordon, dedicated/source server, hl 2 css dods that kind of thing. What now?

get your old account, and try out the steam setup tutorial in the tutorials section.

You'd need to contact VALVe and have them transfer your CDKey to a new account or get a new CDKey to register.

Subst is a rather easy command. I have a batch file that runs the command on startup - You can download it here: http://rabidmonkey.bluewolf72.com/files/substdrive.bat
and modify it to your needs - Just replace your SteamID and the path where you installed Steam and place a shortcut in your startup folder, then run it and it should be good to go.

Everything is exactly how the tutorial has it except for the substitution, which says this every time I type this is:
subst s: C:Program FilesSteamSteamAppssnobusiness@aol.comcounter-strike
Incorrect number of parameters - FilesSteamSteamAppssnobusiness@aol.comcounter-strike
....
