I know you are leaving TWHL, but why withdraw your maps? They rocked, and by taking them away you only deprive us of good levels.

His decision, let him be. Seems stupid to me too, but what're you going to do. Alex's journal post summed it right up.

his journal entry (rimrook's) made me angry. who does he think he is?
some mapping oracle who knows everything?

some mapping oracle who knows everything?
Maybe he is "The One"!
Okay, But still.. That sucked, He's putting himself as a "god's position"

He's an asshat.
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 12:16:03 UTC Post #84270
I've found unknown methods of cutting compile times and lowering r_speeds without losing any quality. I had to pick apart the half-life engine itself to find my discoveries, and what is mine is mine.
LMAO - if he won't share his so amazing and unknown ideas he has no place in a community. Become a loner.

Yes, he IS an oracle of mapping. Well, at east we still got Kasperg. KASPERG! DON'T LEAVE!
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:01:15 UTC Post #84287
Hmm... Seems kinda counter-productive to reject a whole community - fair enough, you feel on top of the Hammer when you get something good - but there's no need to turn Eletist on everyone.

I found the whole thing rather funny.

I would have liked to see those maps though...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:10:37 UTC Post #84290
Kasperg will never leave TWHL :D He doesnt need to enter a Day of Defeat community to feel at peace with himselft and the rest of the world...
Some weeks ago, Rimrook taught me how he did his reflecting floor effect in Castle Rimrook, so that knowledge is not lost.
I have no plans to remove my 20 maps from the vault. On the contrary, I plan on increasing that number, hopefully completing a huge laberynth map plenty of easter eggs and secrets. It'll be fun to see who beats it first!! (read my diary for info on that)
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:19:24 UTC Post #84292
Got a link to any of Rimrook's Maps?
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:20:36 UTC Post #84293
i always thought kasperg's (and others) maps were way better than rimroks (whose maps i never understood why anyone liked) blocky maps. i think some people must have confused making cool screens with making cool maps. and the reflective floor trick is nothing new, and it's far from being rimrock's creation. there are tuts everywhere for it.

let him think he's some great mapper... one day he'll realize he's just an advanced noob. good riddance...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:25:39 UTC Post #84294
Hmmm.. Still would like to see his maps first, and then make up my mind. :

Links anyone?
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:32:39 UTC Post #84295
seriously, to a noob they might have been great... but they were really nothing special... at all. just some custom textures on blocky architecture. he would use graphics and text on his screens so the noobs were like OMGZORS HES SO 1333337!!!!!!!1 i guess it went to his head...
Posted 19 years ago2005-01-17 14:39:25 UTC Post #84296
Mmm, I no longer have any of his maps in my computer (I used to have the castle, the beach and gyradell)...
I knew about the reflecting floor technique long ago, and I know there are plenty of tutorials about it. But the ones I had seen were with full reflection or glow reflection. I hadnt tried to use a fading texture before I saw Castle Rimrook :|

Ok, rimrook is obviously not gonna responds since he's left twhl, which makes this thread useless.

The word "n??b" (and later on "naab") is derived from the word n00b meaning newb, newbie or beginner in internet slang.
Etymology: on azerty keyboards the "?" is on the same key as the "0": shift+"?" gives "0".
In the heat of a squabble people sometimes miss their shift key and end up typing n??b instead of n00b. Of course these people are so l33t that there typos become new words.
n00blet: "omg I emptied an entire mag in his face!"
l33tard: "n??b!"

Wow... i thought i was being neglected since my mapping skills lacked a few aspects... I had no idea at all i was looked up to so much by the people of TWHL. I figured my maps always seemed to elaborate and uncool because they were nearly unplayable due to r_speeds and other problems. I never realized what i had until it was gone, and likewise for my maps. I removed them to relieve a little space on TWHL and since i thought no one really downloaded them or even liked them.

That being said, i would like to (in the future) write some tutorials about the things i know about mapping and how to optimize stuff. I'm extremely happey to announce my glorious return, and also that i have glorious friends.

Our TWHL,
Who 0wnz the net,
you rock!
May all our base somday are belong to you.
Give us this day our AWP, Body Armor, and Frags through fast Steam.
Cut us some slack when we act like noobz,
and don't be hatin' those who act like noobz to us.
Please don't give us admin when we're too pissed to realise right from wrong, and if you could keep spyware off our comps,
we'd appreciate it :)
For you own all our Mapping needs forever and ever,
Amen.
