How do you change how much damage a weapon causes?

In the main pak0.pak file there is a text file named skill.cfg or skill.txt I can't remember. Copy it into your valve directory. Open it and you will see health and damage values for monsters. Scroll down and you will find the damage values for weapons. Change them to what you want and then save it. Wala and you have new damage values. Make sure you make a backup of the old skill.txt.

Shouldn't this be in the HL2 mapping questions then?

a fun thing to do is set the damage for something like the pistol to a high amount like 500, most cretures explode when you shoot them.

cretures explode
Heh - only in HL1 - HL? does not have gibbing (i think ...)

From what I noticed while playing through, there is no gibbing kol. Just those sexy, and freakin' hilarious rigid body dynamics.

Maybe they thought that with Id's Doom III in the works and eventually on sale, there was no need to make the game so gory. Physics gameplay is one of the many things that make HL2 special :)

Hell yeah! There's nothing like grabbing a Combine with the supergrav gun by the foot and swinging his corpse around in circles.

Or just picking him up and flinging him down the endless pit.

Or just jump down with him for fun.

But for weapon damages thing look at the console commands here:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/code/36599.html

Somewhere in there is a command to change weapon damage, but it resets back to its default value when you exit the game.

If that link does not work then try this one:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/
code/914642.html or try refreshing.
