I've always seen it as two shades of gray wityh a VERY VERY VERY VERY, almost unnoticable pinch of orange.

Well it depends on your browser DUH!!! different browsers display thing slightly differently, and also its any number of things:
1. brightness up high/low
2. contrast fiddled with
3. tft/crt monitors etc
4. your going blind
5. a gremlin has infiltrated your monitor and is gradually eating away at your colours

Err, it depends on your monitor settings, since all browsers should view colors the same unless someone has fucked around with the HTML color rendering.
