The update that was released today seems to have taken out the gameinfo.txt from every where except the SDK. What do I do?

Update for what? Steam in general or SDK?

The updates that were released about 45 minutes ago. It updated Half-Life 2 Death Match, SDK, and Steam. Then I went into play games, clicked Source SDK, then it copied new files automatically, and when I clicked on Hammer it said it could not find a file and it said it is the gameinfo.txt. I searched for gameinfo.txt in all of the games, but the only ones that I could locate were in the SDK folded. There are none in the accual game folders.

Wow, this update was the slowwest update ive gotten from Steam.

And it fu***d up my SDK.

Valve is dumb as hell.

Now I can't map until they fix it...

Perhaps the problem isn't VALVe's, but perhaps with the user? Don't be so fast to blame things on them.

Try using the Reset SDK content feature as Steam describes.

I did.

I did not blame Valve that it is thier fault.

Manually copy the gameinfos from the GCF, then, if it's not functioning correctly. Resetting SDK content works fine for me.

I don't know what GCF is...

Yes.

GCF = Game Cache File which all files for Steam games are stored in.

So can you tell me how I can put the gameinfo.txt where they go and which things I change for Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Death Match, and Counter Strike Source?

From the Source SDK FAQ:

Or you can write your own GameInfo as the FAQ describes: http://www.valve-erc.com/srcsdk/general/gameinfo.html

Or one can get a utility called GCFScape which opens GCF files, then extract the gameinfos from the proper GCFs (half-life 2 content, counter-strike source shared, half-life 2 deathmatch).

So basically, the gameinfo.txt should appear after playing the game?

It does work, I tried.

it works. i was really pissed for about 15 min. then i found the answer in the problem solving section. run game first = hammer works

I was going to say that it needs to open hl2 before you can map with the new files

Yeh just reset settings and then run HL2
This really pissed me off.
