man, I don't remember the last time I had so much troubles with an official software :| ...

10% chance that Hammer4 freeze while loading,
100% chance that Hammer4 freeze while loading a rmf file,
20% chance that Hammer4 freeze while loading a map file,

and if I am lucky enough to have my map loaded, either the views are f#ck#d and the soft freeze when I anything in the map, either the framerate is like 1/10 sec (I clic on something and 10 sec later it finally apply my command).

wtf is wrong ? :|

here are my specs :
my specs :
windows 98 (2nd edition)
Athlon 2200+
512 RAM
GeForce FX 5200

everything is fine on my comp except that editor : I completed HL2 without problems. the map I would like to work on has no error reported in Hammer 3.4 ... got any idea ?

You can't load RMF - It's a bug. You have to use a MAP format.

Might be Win98. I doubt it, though, Hammer 4 is pretty buggy by nature.

can I expect maybe a part of my troubles could be fixed soon with steam updates ?

Possibly. VALVe is continually updating the SDK.

the new weapons ? do you mean the campaign isn't completed or are you talking about HL2DM ?

do you mean Valve is about to add other weapons to CS:S and include them in Hammer4 ?

Sorry for the low detial:

Basically Valve are releasing the new weapons stun stick and slammer for hl2dm!

They will have to update the sdk for the new slammer entity and lighting system.

so... when it updates clear the whole of your sdk, reinstall, let it update and it should work hopefully :)

512 RAM... get 1024 ;) That shouldn't be the problem though.

I remember the days when I was enjoying great games on my Amiga with an only one mega of RAM :| ...

512 Mos is already too goddamn enough in my opinion : instead of releasing pure shit virus infested windows OS and other pure shit spyware central steam that just drain hundreds of Mhz and RAM and bandwitdh for unknown reasons, they really should focus on making real softwares that just don't crash and need to be updated every week. buying more RAM will just allow them to code again more like newbs ...

Software is a mass noun, the plural is the same, not "softwares". Just for your education :).

I think you'd be better off with a newer OS, though, y'know.

oh I didn't know, thanks for the comment : as you might know, english isn't my first language, and I am still learning.

is it like "sugar" then ? do I have to say "some software" ?

my bro will install for me win2K the next week, I do hope that will fix my problems : I am expecting so much from Source ...

it's been years he is telling me "omg switch OS", but everytime I switch on XP or 2K, I am just spending my whole days scanning my comp for virus, spywares, homepage hijackers and all the other crap on the net : at least with win98, you just have to turn on some settings to make your comp YOUR comp ...

Exactly, or like "sheep" or "water" :). Strange language, eh?

2000 is almost certainly better. As for your security woes, I'd suggest that using a decent free firewall like Sygate, an anti-virus like avast! and a good browser like Firefox or Opera should keep you completely safe. Does me, anyway.

a good browser ? what's wrong with good ol' microsoft's IE ? :

I don't like that much firewalls, because there are sometimes troubles with online games, like usually when creating a game ...

I think I will use win2K only for Hammer, and 98 for all my other business, but we (me and my brother) will have to deal with my harddrive : win98 + win2K + steam + HL2 don't fit on a 10Go C: (I have 4 drives of 10Go each) :| ...
Strange language, eh?
I cannot picture myself entering in a shop, and ask "good morning, I'd like to buy some software please" :| ...

well, in France we kinda adapted this word with our way of speak : we mostly say "soft" first (as I am sure you are doing too), and to define a specific thing : a CD, a program etc for example. something as it could be translated as "what's wrong with this software ?", in comparison with an other :)

Internet Explorer is a huge security problem, not to mention being outdated, slow, ugly, and restrictive. There is absolutely nothing good about it.

As for firewalls - je ne sais pas quand you last used a firewall, but they're all pretty easy to configure to allow hosting of games. I should know, I regularly do with that firewall. They're essential nowadays.

As for the last bit, we'd stress it differently:

"What's wrong with this software?" - plain question
"What's wrong with this software?" - comparison to other software
