Jahzel, get hold of some Scientist albums, and while you're at it, Lee Perry too -
Lol, If you knew me better you'd understand that I am a dubhead and taht I do won many dub albums icluding Scientist, Keith Hudson, Roots Radics, Dub Specialist, yadda yadda yadda...

Lee Perry is good, I do like the Upsetters and I do have a small selection of their tunes, but I prefer heavier dubs, rootsy stuff.

I just recently went to see Dillinger! Remember that 'I got cocaine, running around my brain..." and 'Mi lit two chalice ina Buckinham Palace'

Go to this site. You will need RealPlayer though, but most reggae on the internet is RealPlayer required.

heh, man I remember those tunes, wow it's been a while though.

Glad to hear you're into the 'heavy' stuff.

I dig the bass-heavy over the top hi-hat kinda sound. With the bass drum dropping on the snare in a true, old skool dub stylee :P

I've been wanting to start a good, original dub band for ages now, but finding a drummer and guitarist who only want to play dub is quite hard. I might have to just do it on my own =/
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-07 13:39:58 UTC Post #95665
Dub's not that hard, all you need is a good echo chamber and your (I would say) half your way there!
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-07 13:52:35 UTC Post #95672
Oh don't get me wrong, we've been playing Dub in one of the bands (ooh listen to me Mr Posh two bands) for a while, in fact when we started we were mainly playing dub and ska.

But the other guys want to do more diverse stuff, which I'm happy to do, but I'd like to play whole sets of just Dub. Perfect for parties and shit like that, good time skank.

And playing live is what it's all about for me, but programming a few drums and layering the guitars and bass won't take long. I'll have to make a start as soon as I get FruityLoops to work (haha - the most I intend to spend on a Music Prog at this point in time is exactly ?0).

You make music Jah?

Yes I do make music, I have made quite a few tracks with different stuff. My cousin and I calaborated with a few, and he coined the name 'Reverand Barking Spider' as the 'character' who makes these tunes. I will upload them on my site, or create a Revereand Barking Spider site to put them on...

The names of my tracks are pretty strange:

Blue Blood
Stuck In A Pylon
Dynamic Smokers
Lawn Gnome
Footlicker

etc

The bottom line is, it's experimental music, the kind you would like to hear whilst influenced by mind-expanding hallucinagenics. :)

I could make dub, I have the facility to, but for some reason I always get side-tracked by messing around...

Yes. Not just a film score man, he did some much better stuff earlier, and I believe his father was a composer too.

Its a song I'd honestly recommend a download. Legitimately. After purchasing the album.
