I have had only one problem with steam and that was the mapping section!
That really pissed me off and thus I hate steam and their attention seeking ways!

steam used to suck, but most of the bugs have been filtered out, and all thats left are a few WON fanboys. go for it, its the only way to get the latest updates and play the source games.

Steam sucks major ass, but unfortunately it's the only option if you want to play online. I've had nothing but trouble since i switched to steam.

Yep, HL2 (and/or) online gaming is only achievable through Steam. Hell, before I got it I was reluctant. If you're only gonna map for HL1 and don't want to play online, stick with the latest WON release.
