It's your constant, shitty blather that pushes people past their limits of what their willing to put up with.

I've never met anyone portraying themselves as so knowing, and in reality being such an idiot.

Stop posting your bullshit, and I'll shut up too.

Today I begin my adventure on this freakishly backward website.
Taken from Orphues's journal, posted in the day he joined twhl.

He's egocentric. I couldn't care less if he was so smart, but its completely unneccessary to act superior the way he does.
Orpheus, as much as you may think you aren't God.

I'd like the server to have Tinnos or Floating Point. They offer a nice balance of gameplay and visuals. Warpcore seems too cramped and the map flow has several interrumptions.

As for all this discussion, it's a bit pointless. If people didn't like the maps because of the texturing, there's nothing else to say. They had nice gameflow and vertical combat.
If those levels were made years ago or were "Level of the week" is totally irrelevant to the server users.
I think it's a bit immature to say that "This is a generation of crap maps lovers anyway" if your maps are removed though...

Some of the maps that are still in the server are quite good even though they were never sent to planethalf-life. The HL community is bigger than we think ;)

And Kasperg btw, you should be kneeling when you address the master's comments ;)

Orph, there are a few people here who dislike you, most like you. I like you.

and while you hail from snarkpit as your homebase, Rowley and Trapt equal you here. every site has one, and they only become fiery when a topic is given.

and your maps were kinda subpar compared to the ones up there these days.

the textureing was 2000 standard, the architexture was average, and the only thing they had going was ok gameplay.

now I asked muzz to take your maps off because alot of people were complaine they were bad, I havn't played them all yet, maybe I missed out on those two map's of the week. But, take today for example, we had a big TWHL server DM, and me and the black mesa source guys were on it the day before.

Today Muzz uploaded alot of new maps from the vault, quality maps. About 5 by Rimrook or Kasberg, and a few others, like dm_control. we played those for a while then played some of the original HL levels for a little while before deaming most of them bad (exceptions being crossfire and bounce).

yours were slightly better then some of the orignals.

but come on some time and play with us sometime. we don't play on crap maps, nor do we have crappy taste.

take dm_crete by rimrook, it was done useing good brushwork, 1 crete texture, and texlights of varying colors. it looks very nice, even with only 1 primary texture. what really sets it apart though is the gameplay, which is very well balanced and fun. something that would have saved your maps if they had the same kind of fun attribute.

I say you should get back into mapping for a bit to have a map good enough for a permenant place on the server.

Just read the first paragraph in your post. It's meant to be an insult. Once again, a hostile and dismissive approach which can blind people and prevent them from understanding the useful things you might say. I told you about this when you first joined, and I expect you will slowly improve in that aspect. If not for you, do it for the rest of twhl :)

Your maps are nice. If you think they are crap and they still made "level of the week", it just shows that the "level of the week" award is nothing to take in consideration. I have been downloading those LotW maps for many years, they were mostly nice but few were really impressive.

I wish you made a "champion map" for the server showcasing your "experience". It would surely shut some mouths once and for all, as well as freeing you from the usual "I made those maps years ago" sentence to dismiss criticisms.

:)

You guys seem to be under some illusion that I need prove something to qualify for something.
untrue. its just that Nobody likes it when somebody goes arond flaunting themself all high and mighty without proof.

most of us don't dought your skill, in the same way we don't dought that 7th, or ZL, or any of the other regualars mapping ability. but they don't go around flaunting what they can do in there heads these days.

please orph, let this issue rest.

Translation- Stop upsetting me and I'll stop whining.
So stop being such a whiney bitch...with a mustache.

Its alright if your maps are bad, and its good that you had some spotlights, we all go through it. But to earn respect, you must kept since it is an unsustaining thing. Whining so much is isn't getting you anywhere! You're running around in a cirlce panicking. If someone pisses you off, fuck it and ignore them. If you want to get back on the right track, map something good and fun! add it too the server and let us play it through. THEN take all criticism nicely and contructively, if its bad, adress the problem constructively and learn something. Use the knowledge you have and educate the noobies. Write tutorials, or make example maps. If there is nothing else you can do, at least make prefabs!

A good mapper maps good.
A good member shares good.

lastly, calm the fuck down. I'm surprised you take this crap as seriously as you do. Mapping is a fun hobby to enjoy.

I must say, you're maps have awsome construct. maybe you should help out on a mod or put a little something of your own together.

Or grab milkshape and begin modelling, there's never enough of that.

Don't say something sidecocked about this, because this is the best advice i have for you.

Actions speak louder than words and never lie.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT TO PROVE????
That you can be better than yourself. I know you have the potential.

You seem like the type to know what limits are, are you so afraid to go beyond the limits of yourself, of your skills, of your potential?

I say just lose it, I dare you, fucking do it! curse me out bitch, you'll feel better afterwards.... then go listen to music and map something.

I just have one personal question that other people might also have.
Why did you join TWHL?
I would like to think it was to share your knowledge and allowing twhl users to have a broader view of the HL community, by getting more twhlers to visit the Snarkpit and taking a look at what's going on there.

However, the nature of some of your posts, your journal entries claiming a study of the site, as well as mentioning things like "lists of morons" could make anyone with a brain think that you had some other intentions like provoking and making fun of people who are in the process of learning.

And like Rimrook said, you need to be more calm. Specially if you are talking about insecurities and stuff like that.
You can write a 5 paragraph reply if you like. You don't need to prove anything. You have good mapping skills and that's what should make you useful in this community. Don't try to be a priest.
And remember everyone, The grid void is our paper and brushes are our words (ok, entities and props too)

Kasperg Sensei ftw!

I join TWHL to because it was a bridge from the 2D to 3D world. I always loved gaming, so that was a plus. I knew it was gonna be a long and hard trip to understanding Hammer and all its stuff. I needed help in otherwords. So I googled TWHL and went to IRC where m0p helped me for the first time. The rest of it is history. I read all of the awsome tutorials, and even now i still look at the entity glossary. I began forming worlds of my imagination in 3D, then submitting them. Old maps like Castle Rimrook and Gyradell. It was art to me, and it still is a form of art for me. Art is to be shared, and no one is better to share it with no other than the great people of TWHL who have helped me master the art. Because of their generosity, i'm able to take it into the professional world, and continue with it as a career. Without TWHL, i would be flipping burgers in a fast food restaurant. I remember this reason fondly. So i try to repay as much as i can to TWHL and its members, which is very difficult. I try to write tutorials and share knowledge most useful to those who aren't quite my level. Some things now don't seem so bad. My profile has a wealth of info, and i offer services i often get asked about. TWHL ranks high on my priorities, now you know why.

The void is our paper, brushes are words, and entities the life we breath unto our story. To take a simple thought, and turning into a world, is tremendous power.

and I haven't stoped laughing since orpheous started being funny, at that moment all the posts below him seemed less heavy handed, and I kept chuckling reading them.

that is the power of humor
