Ok, so i have this nice picture, it's 16-bit, using 4 shades of gray, somewhat detailed, below 9 kb. I open up wally, do the wizard hl color decal etc. It tells me that my .bmp version is not supported... wtf? all i did was change the dimensions in photoshop, then convert it to 16-bit in paint, what is wrong?

oh, by the way, i tried doing a monochrome bitmap as well and it said that wasn't supported either...

Save it as jpg or uncompressed bmp instead.

yes but in order for it to work as a spray it has to be 16-bit or 8-bit doesn't it?

you need to set it to 'indexed colour' in photoshop

I tried that but it's just annoying, i hate photoshop with a passion and thus i can't use it worth squat.

Did you just added me to msn just to get a solution from me for your problem? That is in no way necessary.

That image is waaaaaaaay to big. It 469*665 in size. You need to shrink that down a lot 64*80 should be fine, as long as the decal filesize is under 14 kb.

Open it in paint and actually copy and paste the picture itself rather than the file. Its "unsupported" because its either using a palette consisting of more or less than 256 colors. Wally can only supports a 256 color palatte but don't save the bmp in paint as 256 colors because that will make it look like crap. Like I said before just open in paint, select the whole thing, copy, and paste into Wally.
Sorry for the long answer, me and my rambling. Bah.

Why not use DecalConverter... Google for it, it is fast and easy.

That's the best I was able to do using this tutorial--which is fine for low res sprays like the ones I use.

I'll try DecalConverter next as inventrex suggested, and see how they compare.

Edit: After DecalConverter:

Much nicer! DecalConverter FTW!

How to:

1. Downloadinstall DecalConverter.
2. Open "Roland" in DC and resize to 64?128.
3. Click on Decal menu and click "decal".
4. DC creates pldecal.wad's--so if your using steam, change the name to tempdecal.wad.

Also if you start out with a 24-bit bmp--instead of the jpg I used--, it will look better still.
