Hey just finished a wind tunnel. setup a control room and fan ports setup.

I want to trigger the wind tunnel to turn on at the touch of a button. Then who ever is in the wind tunnel room gets blow to the wall and hurt or killed.

How do I simulate this in HL?

Function train and trigger_player_hurt?

not a func_train. a trigger_push. theres a tut on fans. take a look at it.

a func_push wont hurt the player. you can make a func_train set its name to "train" or somthing change it so its invisible (do that by stting the fx mode to coler and fx amount to 0) set up to path corners and make a button with the target to the name of the func_trian. if you need more help say the word. i hope i even help... i pretty new.

ps. if you dont want them to get hurt use func_push. hope i helped :nuts:

I am going with ministeve's suggestion. Tigger_push will push the player agaisnts a wall I could set up a false wall that rises from the floor and have trigger hurt onit right?

OK so I use trigger_push

Do I need to strech the trigger to where is fills the room?

yes, everywhere you want people to be pushed. Also, you can have the button trigger the trigger_hurt, but i dont know if you can turn it off again.

If not, you can use the KillTarget field of, say, a trigger_relay.

I'll make an example map if you want. I might anyway in a bit, I don't know.

make a trigger_hurt stuck to the wall - not literally,

the non bold beeng the trigger hurt, not set the 'touch or someother
flag in the trigger hurt properties, now you have the illusion of the player hetting hurt when they hit the wall

Why not, instead of trigger_hurt-ing the player, use a large exposed func_rotating fan (with "dammage inflicted"set to 200 or-so) to chop the player up once he is pushed against it? It seems kinda logical in a wind tunnel. You will need to put a grate-ish wall right behind it to hold the player in place so he dosent slip past the fan, tho.

I think he's seen Face/Off?

In that, a man is thrown through a wind tunnel into a mesh and almost dies. He doesn't hit a fan, though.

yeah, the movie with twin Deagles?:D I know the one. Pitty the buget diddn't allow for them to install a second revolving fan to finish that guy off. :lol: I'm sure a second fan would have been welcome! (-and perhaps a stupider stunt-doubble)

Yes,
I think i should point out that if you want the player to be puched up, then you need to make him jump, or fall slightly, to 'catch the air'

otherwise, you'll just walk through like nothing's happening

basically the triiger push pushes u into the wall with a trigger hurt covering it. the fan is just there 4 show, 2 give a reason 2 b pushed against the wal and killed.

Or you could just set the fan's flag 'Fan Pain' and make that hurt you...

like, have 2 fans... you get pushed by the air.. into the second fan ...

LOL All Good.

Ok I got the button that starts all of this off, to close the door in front of the fan. then the fan turns on and the player gets pushed into the door.(I used the grate texture, LOL could be like a cheese grader and grade the player to death :)). so the problem is I can not make the wall trigger_kill or pushable kill button. It is a door.

I liked the idea of an ilussionary wall. How do I only allow it to kill with everything on and stop killed after the cycle is done and the fan shuts off?

I think you can target trigger_hurts to turn them on or off.

*flashback to Seventh's first ever HL-based map (it was for CS). Big green room with a pillar in the middle and two TMPs on the floor. Wow. Quality.

u can set times 4 everyhtin. or should b albe 2. if not try another mulrimanager 2 switch everythin off.

LOL I was thinking on doing that. The push is not working humm. BTW I was using atom's fans tutorial to bulid it. Umm I followed the tutorial to a T. Fan works but the push does not. :(

Happy Holidays everybody!!!!!!

I wanted to shot a quick note about this issue I had with function_push.

I GOT IT FIXED!!!! :P

Do not strech the box to the full size of the room. The function push for some reason will not push is the player is inside the box. You just gotta think out side the box.

to fix it I sized the box too be as tall and as wide as the room in fornt of the fan and about 16 units long. (looks like a wall in fornt of the fan in hammer).

Then you adjust the speed to your specs.

I place a triger hurt in front of the door that slams shut after the button is triggered the door closes and the trigger hurt is activated.

Now just need to figure how to time this so it is not just left on. I want it to cycle untill the tigger_hurt kills the person inside.

Any ideas?

I don't think there are any ways of targeting entities, by meand of a death by the player...

You can though, do this with monsters...

kol I think you right because with monsters you pin point which enitiy that would trigger the stop and since the player is non-targetable as far as I know, I may be completly impossable. Save World Kill :P

So i would have to do a time limit???

Um, no,

Just set the trigger condition on a monster to 'Death'
and trigger target ot waht ever you want,

this is the principal behind enemy comtrolled func_tanks

Chippy thanks for the info. Still having issues with it.

So later tonight I will upload the room.

The problem is now the person get sent out to fast and passes the door and trigger hurt before they ar activated.

Will anounce it in this post when I have uploaded it and the shout box.
