I need help!

I'm getting pop-ups galore, and I have no idea where there coming from!
I uninstalled all the adware I found on my pc, but still, I leave my PC for 45mins, and when I come back I got 61 Popups.. which causes me to hit the power button in order to reboot it. How can I find this bug! :|

do you use firefox? That has a built in pop up blocker
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-28 18:40:09 UTC Post #160134
Just a thought but when you go on dodgy websites it installs stuff that shouldn't be there so press ctrl alt delete and check the programs running.

If you see System programs that have slightly different names like:

Lsass then close it and scan for viruses, turn on pop-up blocker and uhh thats it.

OK guys, problem solved, I forgot all about a program I had called NoAdware V.3.0 I scanned my PC, and found 139 infected files, including such aplications like Starware, and much more, which where defined as Severe threats, because the programs would continue to update themselves... but, now there gone.

As for the other problem with my HL not working due to me uninstalling Steam, well, I did a System Restore, and all is back to normal.

Thanks for all your help though.

btw Chickenfist, I have FireFox and Opera, I never used IE and never will.

I would advise you to get a popup blocker and i do say googles blocker has yet to fail me
Posted 18 years ago2006-01-29 04:00:00 UTC Post #160192
Opera has a built-in pop-up blocker so you won't need Google's offering.

Unbreakable: Here's the essential list of applications for good computer health:

1. A good virus scanning program. Trend Micro for a purchasable option, or AVG/Avast for a free solution
2. A good firewall. ZoneAlarm Pro for a purchasable option, ZoneAlarm for a free option
3. Ad-Aware. The free version
4. Spybot: Search & Destroy
5. Process Explorer, as Alex mentioned above
6. CodeStuff Starter. Gives you a comprehensive list of what's happening at Startup.

I enjoy opera... loading times a bit faster than firefox. Has a built in tab system, a fill out your sign in and password thing, a transfer manager, and a built in IRC client.. Firefox people... I know you can download these as plugins.. but I dont enjoy doing it. Plugin hunting is annoying.

Opera's is nicer still. Has a proper MDI interface instead of the lazy tabs-only approach of Firefox (so you can cascade windows inside a window, etc.). I tried using Firefox under LINUX (a live CD, so I couldn't install Opera). It was painful. Really painful.

Opera's one of the best program's I've ever used.
