This is probably easy.. i have made a map in which some water (or slime in this case) is raised when the player presses a button, this all works fine, and the water level increases as it should..however, when the water has reached te top, the water texture disappears, but it's still there, the player can still take a swim... or drown...in it

why does the texture disappear???

its just a halflife bug, I don't think there are many ways to get around it

if you want, lower the water level for few inches from the top... maybe will work... :|

Yeah,
Everyone is right, the water texture is only rendered on the visible external faces so when your in water you can't see it. Either drop the top down a few units or add light and bubbles to make it look like water

Without seeing the map it's hard to say, but think about this. When you swim in a pool do you see the "texture" of the water on the bottom and sides of the pool or do you just see a blue haze?

Nah.. you don't, that's why adding Bubbles seems to make sense ;)

Yeah, and add some water plants... use monster_generic for that... :|

ok, i'll try to explane a little further, the water is in the begginning about 1 meter deep, it is located in the bottom af a big room.
when the player presses a button (which is located just above the water surface) the water starts going up.
now the player has to climb all the way up again before the water reaches him.

when you have finished climbing and the water has gone to its highest point (which is about 1 meter from the place where the player now is) it disappears. so the player is never in the water when the texture disappears, he is e few meters abouve the surface looking down into the water.

as it is now i can se right through to the bottom some 20 meters down.. :(

Is the water one brush or is it two or more?
Posted 20 years ago2003-12-31 12:47:27 UTC Post #9926

THe water is touching another brush, find out wich one, because it is overlapping one, which makes it disappear while in motion.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-01 14:04:10 UTC Post #10046
it doesn't disappear while in motion, it disappears after it has stopped moving :|

oh. Well, then I'm stumped. Make it over again with a different brush and a different texture for the water, if it still doesn't work, i'm stumped...

that might work..i've had similar problems before and sometimes just changing the texture can fix the problem..i'll try tonight :)

Chippy?
Why don't you become a member instead of posting it as Anonymous?

Unfortunately i can't do that, since the water is part of a trap.. :(

the strange thing is, i have done it before without any problems whatsoever...

hmmmm..... make a test map with the water thing only, and see if it works.
