The more I map, the more I wonder how thick to make floors in multilevel buildings, how to do the texture lock, all sorts.

Can anyone give me a challenge for a map? I'm getting bored LOL!

a challenge, eh? well i was laking a map for blackdeath which went down the toilet where u were on the back of a moving truck fighting off hgrunts. went down the pooper when the path corners messed up and the truck didnt turn. i usually make structural brushes 64 units. thats just 1 square. for texture lock click the little box on the toolbar that says "tl".

Map a wide rocky area, with non flat ground, rocks etc.. all within the software engine limits ;)

:agrees with Kol:

That'd be neat.

But doesn't 64 units seem thick? Seem to be a little thick for internal walls when you want to add a door.

Maybe you can elaborate on why so thick? I like working at 16 or lower. What are the advantages/dis-advantages?

erm kol dat is very easy if you like vertex manipulation :P

Easy?
Ok, make a 2560x2560x1088 map with a VM floor, lots of Hills and Valleys and get it to run in software mode without short surfaces. (Good Luck: Andy)

I always set walls and floors as 16 units.

16 is the way to go.

If you are getting bored and can't find something to do, just make this level...

You walk down a long hallway and there are big glass widows on either side, spaced out. use the texture WHITE and make a room behind each window. Make a door in the back of each room (or in the ceil). Make a button by each window that opens the door. Put monsters in a room behind the door. Put scientists, barnies, and grunts in each room. Have fun and watch them get slaughtered. It is lots of fun.

or hav 2 monstermakers in a long passage (1 spwaing barneeys and the other aliens) linked 2 a button in a room overlooking it with glass so u can c inside the long room. when u press the buton they spawn and start kiling each other!

Just as good, you can also make boobie traps for scientists like a ceiling with spikes that comes down and smashes them, or a floor that opens and throws them into a pit of burning lava... (So many ideas... must let out... nahh)

OMG! LOL!
3 Barneys, 1 human assassin, 3 grunts...

What's left? 3 BARNEYS! I cant believe they killed the 4 others LOL and the grunts have machine guns.

I know, barney is pretty good. Let barney fight a bunch of aliens and they won't even move, but cowor in fear of the mighty blue man.'

Someone make a whole map of cool wars and boobie traps, or even a mod, then upload it. Its very fun.
