At first glance, I wasn't going to touch this thread with a 10-foot pole. Since then, I've rehearsed my deep breathing exercices and feel ready to respond.

Many of the invectives/complaints strewn forth in this thread are mostly true--if over-exaggerated--, so they're not really worth disputing. Besides the fact that it's no secret The United States lags behind most developed countries in Academics, I freely admit most of us--myself included--, are consumeristic, lazy slobs, who don't really care what's going on in the world until our gas prices rise.

That said, I think ZombieLoffe really "beefed the jerkey" when he basically said that even if these things are true, it's rather petty and pointless to complain how stupid we supposedly are. Really, grow Up.

You're correct, rowleybob. I am an elitist who likes to look-down and judge people. I am also smarter than the average American, and I work harder than most.

To get to where I am, I sacrificed so much. I finished half of my college credits while I was in high school, and I only got one "B" out of all the classes I took in university (the rest are all perfect grades). In fact, I was the top of my class in more than half of the college courses I took. I graduated top of my class again in medical school.

Is it because I am so much smarter than everyone else? No. I know I am not the smartest, so I earned my grades by sheer tenacity. I gave up on leisure times, I gave up on social occasions. I woke up at 4 in the morning every day for three years while in medical school so I can read the textbook seven times before taking the exams.

When I immigrated to the United States, I didn't even know all the alphabets. Yet within three years, I was able to compete with native speakers in English literary analysis. I couldn't understand the teacher's instruction or the textbook in algebra, so I figured out algebraic rules by myself.

I didn't accomplish these because I am so much more intelligent than everyone else. I did it because no one else was able to work as hard as I did.

If people just paid attention in school, they would know things. I should re-classify those people in the beginning of the thread as "ignorant" and not "stupid". And that's even worse than being stupid. Because it implies lack of motivation and laziness.

Why do I believe I can judge these people? Because I earned the rights, with my own blood and sweat.

I was born in new york, but Ive lived in the UK all my life. I visit the US at least once a year for a few weeks to see relitives on my moms side. my best friend happens to be american as well, but he hasnt lived in the UK his whole life.

In the UK I can quite happily walk to any of my mates houses, the local shops where I talk to people I know at the till, and walk back home and at no point see anyone being 'gangsta'

1. Capitalism is intended to encourage people to aid others in exchange for aid themselves via exchange of money, whether this be work put into building houses, producing paper, cooking food, etc.

These represent, I feel, the basis of a capitalist society.

Now, with your harsh anti-welfare opinions, can we therefore conclude that you feel that all people are equally able to assist others, and that all appropriate actions are rewarded fairly in payment? If not, you seem to be under the impression that the weak should be excluded and punished.

If you are, then you're clearly saying that you think all people are of equal ability, which is clearly not true. Let's generalise a bit and say that there are a load of people who are only suited to help others by means of, I don't know, cooking. They are unable to offer any other useful services to people at the time, lacking either the innate ability or training to do anything else.

Those facts are debatable. As previous stated, the U.S. economy is heavily reliant on foreign economy, especially that of the Chinese. Americans can no longer claim independence from world influences when it comes to financial stability.

As for the military prowess, China currently has the largest army on the planet. Has anyone noticed that regardless of what China does to human rights issues, American leaders have never vociferously protested? The U.S. military might would be obliterated if it goes head-on with the Chinese. It doesn't stand a chance. The Chinese has enough nuclear arsenal to wipe out any nation, including the U.S.

@BL: Guns arent allowed to be owned for protection or sport, that amendment was added in case of a government that the people didnt like took over, they could fight back and change it.
