Ok , If anyones a detaily , is it possible to make good coaster that to b rolls , corks , loops , v drops etc.I'm having trouble , because Func trains to move to the point given unlike func ttrains. Also , is there any way to stop the player falling from the carrige , and facing the way the carrige does? (it always looks in the forward direction). Anyone help?
(if u have rollercoaster rmf , plz show picz or the file to download. PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN!)

Func_Tracktrain is orinaterd with it's track, use it instead of the func_train. As for the player falling off the coaster can't you make that a camera follows the train? I think it will solve the problem.

One word of warning- I think what you are doing is quite impossible in Hl1... maybe in source, only maybe... and probebly not a gaint one.

Certainly not impossible, just highly impractical. How impractical you will only find out if you try it.

You could add a lap bar that held the player in and then moved along with the train, following the same path_tracks.

Start with the tracktrain examples in the Map Vault if you still want to continue. If nothing else it would be a great exercise to try it :)

when player gets near, teleport him inside, and have a clip brush around / in the carriage, which is tied

I would use a camera, and put the player in a black room.

haha true. I was just agreeing with you elon. More people who say it's a good idea the more likely it is that the person will do it.

Really hard to make, imo.
You have to master the tracktrain to make something as complex as this. :

No it's not that hard to make it. Just make sure the no pitch flag is not ticked. It's really easy to make a single car roller coaster. Multiple cars is diffrent. I think you'll need to make all the cars diffrent trains and aglining them will be quite annoying.

Another problem is the track. How long and detailed are you going to make it? I advice you to use spirit for it has a nice feature of the 3D skybox, the only bad part about it that the sky wont emmit light in the level, only on the 3D skybox.

Just use a trigger_camera, following a func_train as a target and also going after it with path_corners. And its done.

According to Hunter he said that 'Rollercoaster?s' are impossible to make in HL2...I would try if I understood trains...

I once made a coaster of some sorts. Moving with it was buggy - you'd either get thrown out, or crushed as far as I remember. Using a camera would be better indeed.

Anyway, you can't do loopings and all that sort of stuff since the HL camera entity doesn't support rolling, as far as I know, so there's no way to get it up-side down. As for the train, I reckon both the train and tracktrain can be used, the func_train would probably be better (you can set it's orientation through the path_corners it travels through).

I wonder if a rollercoaster would provide any decent gameplay, given the difficulties involved...

Did you ever try that? I did and it didn't work. :tired:

Or you could have a stationary camera and have the track itself move.
