Forgive me for the pun but- HAHAHAHA. Star Trek and Star Wars. :cyclops:

Really I'm astuonded that anybody like those movies and TV series. The last and first time I watched Star Trek it was worse then a DRAMA show. There were kisses, slaps... everything... only with strage looking guys.
And star wars... I'll never understand whats so good about that one.

Sorry it all brusted out just now, I just watched a movie called "spaceballs", it reminded me of what I once watched all that junk. That was a funny movie...

Cut the flaming/cursing/preaching bit short please.

Back to topic
As for the skins- They are really nice, they all fit the theme, exept the security guard's, He needs to be remodeled abit. Give him a diffrent armor(ask someone to model for you if you cant), this one wont cut it, doesn't look futuristic, even with that skin. The helmet is fine as it is, maybe something over the eyes will help. You should edit the scientist's head too. Why keep the extra polies that the face is made of, make that bit flat, you can hardly see the face anyway. :)

You can never have too many models, it doesn't matter if they're video game models or swimsuit models. Never enough!
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-27 16:24:29 UTC Post #182282
Thanks for the suggestions, but I won't waste time with modelling. This is just a minimod after all! Barney is not even in the map yet.

Could you tell us what kind of movies/series you DO like? I'm sure there are people who find them funny or ridiculous. :
Anyway, there are no slaps, kisses or cheap drama in this mod, if that's what bothers you :)
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-27 16:28:15 UTC Post #182283
But thats not Star Trek then! :nervous:

EDIT:

TV series... like... Never watch them. Although that the last one I watched was the A-Team... I liked that. Apart from that I like cartoons, like Teenage Mutant Ninga Turtles. The first series are nice. I know many people don't like them but atlist there aren't any dramatic parts in them, I hate these bits.

Kasperg, I sincerly suggest using Spirit for this, mainly because well, it's startrek, and the env_sky entity would be wicked for it :)

Not forget all the other stuff like move with, particles...ect

Maybe you can make a 3Dskybox with astroids in it. You can tie some of them to train/tracktrain and make an env_particles entity follow them, stimulating commits, it will be so cool. You can tie other astroids to func_rotating, making them rotate slowly, just like in gunman.

Security folks on Star Trek wear the same dillies as everyone else, just a different colour. Even I remember that.

It's one of the multiple changes I've made to the franchise in this map :D
There are different security uniforms in the films (with helmets). I might check those out.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-27 19:43:15 UTC Post #182321
The "clean suit" model is fairly close to the engineering suits from Star Trek II, and Barney's suit is failry close to the helmeted security guards from Star Trek III.
Really I'm astuonded that anybody like those movies and TV series. The last and first time I watched Star Trek it was worse then a DRAMA show.
Seriously Elon, who gives a fuck if you like the show or not. He's pulling off the theme beautifully, and that's what is so cool about this ;)

Mr. Data pwns all, and see's all!!!1111
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-27 19:49:29 UTC Post #182323
Agreed.... My fav TNG character without a doubt.

Mr. Data skin is absolutely necessary!
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-27 21:33:00 UTC Post #182340
I'll give it a try but I can't promise anything.

In my research, I've found several sites with awesome drawings of most of the Star Trek interiors from the shows and films. Take a look if your interested. Some of them make me want to change parts of the map right away! :D

And star wars... I'll never understand whats so good about that one.
It wasn't the movie so much as the spcial effects that got it famous. The prequels suck though .

Anyway, just make sure that the guys in red shirts always die (unless its a main character), thats how it always worked in the original.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 07:07:23 UTC Post #182526
More models! Even if you make new skins...Multiple characters shows you put a lot of effort into the mod...Try and skin some of the famous characters like Data! and as Peter Griffin said: "Holy crap! Alora is black!"

Well, I wanted to put a lot of effort into the maps. The skins were just a needed addition to make the theme work better, not the main objective
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 10:13:21 UTC Post #182556
I've already chosen a title, which gives a hint on the main plot.

hmm... Isn't the transporter using sickbay surgical unit textures?

http://www.startrek-voyager.info/crewseven9.jpg

Sickbay uses orange ones. The transporter uses blue ones.

( i dont want to seem like that treckie arse hole who posted a comment on one of your trek maps that was like "OMG ITS LIEK NOTHING LIEK TEH ENTERPRISE U R GHEY! FAG!" ... i just thought you might have chosen the wrong texture :P)

Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 10:29:14 UTC Post #182559
No, you are right. I was using the sickbay one. I just made the floor pad, and I was going to change the orange ones next. But the color changes from one ship to another. http://www.ccdump.org/images/transporter-ncc1701d.jpg
I'm glad you notice these things. That means you'll really like the map when it's finished. It's full of details.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 10:36:56 UTC Post #182561
ooh. So what colour/design are you goinf for in your ship?
Archie ArchieGoodbye Moonmen
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 10:39:42 UTC Post #182563
It has Enterprise E tones, but the design is not the same.
Mind you, the whole minimod doesn't take place in the same ship, so there are plenty of different designs and possibilities here.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 10:41:14 UTC Post #182564
ooh. Cool.

Any of them gonna be re-creations of the ships from the series' or all from your imagination?

Even though I am not a fan of Star Trek, this mod is looking awesome, and I would play it for sure. :)
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 14:33:33 UTC Post #182598
i think it looks much nicer with the blue. pwn.

Maybe make the lights above each pad slightly thinner (vertically)

looks great

Can't wait to play this!

Truly inspiring work! Trekkies are some of the most fanatical, nit-picky people in the universe--I know from firsthand--, but I think they will not be disappointed :) .
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 17:22:12 UTC Post #182628
The minimod doesn't offically carry the words "Star Trek" anywhere, so they won't have the right to complain.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 17:24:10 UTC Post #182629
Maybe you will let some of us "unofficial" trekkies play the beta!?

This is expressly HL1, right?
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 17:44:08 UTC Post #182633
HL1, yes. I would need a much bigger effort to make all this custom content for Source. But I don't discard it for a distant future.

I don't know if I'll make a beta. So far, there's very little action or interesting gameplay to show...
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 17:55:52 UTC Post #182634
DM, FY versions FTW! (but not)

I dunno, SP missions are just so sad...once they are done, they are done :(.

The only real thing I play anymore with regularity is dod, and rarely cs.

That reminds me, are you doing model/sprite/sound replacements like in Rimrook's/Saco's latest mods?

Make the crowbar a phaser rifle with no charges, with the end all smashed up...

Having a tricorder would be pwn, but that would take some doing.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 18:37:21 UTC Post #182639
I don't know how to model, but there is a phaser replacement for the gauss gun somewhere in the Internet.
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-29 19:00:59 UTC Post #182642
I am noob at model, but i could handle some simple props if you desire...

For the weapons I'm guessing you would decompile the original "arm" models holding the weapons, edit in you favourite impliments, recompile...wallop! (sure there is a little more too it than that though)

Behold, the smudge tool + poo PhotoFiltre skills =

Kasperg is a treckie geek, and this is what we love.
His body may stay on the ground, but his mind is far above.
His awsome star trek maps, really do take flight.
So it's really quite a shame, that his transporter texture aint right.

Here is that phaser Egon replacement. I think it would be better suited for the Gauss, but whatever. (you can use it for the Gauss too, just doesn't line up as well.)

In-game.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-04 02:46:23 UTC Post #183648
Thanks!
I'll probably have to tweak the damage done by the weapon if I leave it as the egon. I haven't made much progress on the minimod because of HL2:Ep1 and Star Trek Elite Force II.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-04 03:05:54 UTC Post #183649
Isnt that the one used in entmod too?
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-06 23:16:52 UTC Post #184141
Bad news for the trekkies. I have almost completed the first map of the minimod, the one that takes place in the Federation ship. I got a working levelchange and a transportation sequence. The problem is the destination.
I have tried several themes for the planetary/star-base to which you and your team arrive, but I'm extremly unhappy with the results.
Playing "ST:Elite Force II" has only increased my deslike for the new map, so I will probably park this minimod for a while, waiting for sci-fi inspiration or planning a good and convincing layout.

Today, I began a HL2 SP map. Puzzles and surreal events will be an integral part of the experience.

Except it's sure to be well-constructed, neat and never really boring, compared to some of the hideous ones i've seen anyway. :)

Screeneh from Star Trek: DS9 The Fallen.

I played the demo a while back for some inspiration to restart my ds9 project, but it's 3rd person. (gay)

Playing the Elite Force II demo now...nice stuff and good gameplay. (you have to turn up all the video settings though, otherwise it looks so bad!)

Elite Force I was awsome. I have yet to play the sequel.

My biggest complain with Elite Force II (and most Quake3 based games) is that the lighting looks so incredibly fake. Little or no defined world shadows, no clear lightsources in rooms (sometimes the texture indicates that the lights are turned off but the room is bright) etc. It happened with the Jedi knight games too. I think Medal of Honor's lighting was a bit better, but all of them pale in comparison to the HL1 lighting. Weird.

Back to the topic. To those who have played the official Star Trek games, I can't guarantee a better gameplay experience as of now. That's why I want to spend more time planning something original for the starbase.
