I'me trying to create a torus in 1.6. For those who don't know, a torus is basicly a hollow donut, a tube that has been stretched in a circle until both ends meet.

All my previous attempts to create one have failed and I'm unable to export one from the Source editer, that I know of. Can anyone offer suggestions, other that a model as I don't know how, to create a good looking torus?

Check out the Mapping Tips thread, and pay special attention to Dauby's method of joining cylinders.

The same method should apply nicely to joining pipes.

If you still can't get it to work, post a problem map, and I'll/we'll give it a go :)

You'll need to use A LOT of vertex manipulation. Have fun!

Nah, no, a torus isn't hollow per definition. Your donut is fine. :)

I think by hollow he just means not jelly-filled.

@rowley: Thanx so much for the help. That's a focal of the map and was givin' me a lot of greif. Hopefully your work and mine won't be in vain (slight possibility map may me too large for 1.6  ). Oh and Bulletproof looks good, will have to give it a try. EDIT Oops, didn't realise Bulletproof was an example map.

@Worldcraft: Not quite what I meant, both for the map and for a real one as I happen to be a Boston Cream fan (or Canadian Maple -> same idea as BC but w/ maple glaze and maple cream)

@rimrook/rowley: Yes i did mean the tube was hollow as in rowley's map. Thanx again.
