could i send someone my map and could they make an elavator(buttons,doors,elavator) All i want is an elavator which the doors go with it and there are buttons to make it go up and down etc. I tried the tutorial and ignored the NOT for begginers :P but the tut atom did is piss easy but those elavators suck :/ PLZ SOMEONE PLZ!! :( if u have msn could u tell me and ill send it :( waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa :zonked:

The tut is very easy.

just follow it veeery carefully.

It worked for me. I tried it and now I know how to make your elevator. Just use the func_train thing.

Make your elevator, then tie it to the func_train entity.

Make point based entities, the path_corner ones were you want your train to go.it doesn't matter where you put the elevator, but the path_corners matter.

name the elevator something.

make the elevator's first stop target to the name of the first path_corner.

make the first path_corner's next stop the other one, and vise versa.(Not spelled right, I know.)

make a brush based func_button.

Make the button target the name of the elevator.

I'm not shure if it works, but I'll look at what I wrote then try it. I might have typed it wrong since I did this in like a minute.

well, you can allways make the whole elev box tied to the train entity and different doors at each stop, but seeing the wall outside of the whole where the doors are move would ruin the effect.

ex:

The elevator is a big box with a hole al big as the door. The door is not attached to it.

When you press the button, the elevator moves up, but the hole thats open shows the wall going past it (Bad effect but works) when it gets to each stop, there is a new button and a new door.

nah cause u see there are 2 platforms and an elavator would look good there. Not a fan that blows u up 1: u die :P and 2: u might reach the top due to explosion but u would be dead :P

NO not BLOWS YOU UP BOOOOM!!!!!!!!!! but the wind makes a great force that causes you to be lifted into the air. Just don't make electrical wires that zap you at the top.

Actually this tutorial scares me too. Don't worry if you don't get it working the first time. Read what Andy has written. He promptly says that this tutorial is not for beginners and is designed to make you think.

I would definitively say to stay away from advanced tutorials until you've mastered the easier ones. And if this is your first map then let it be. Just make a ordinary platform elevator with stationary doors at the top and bottom.

Actually that tutorial was a lot easier than the multiple stops and buttons one that was at Verc :-)

Neo, the main problem here is that you want an effect that the game engine was never designed to do. Do you remember any elevators in HL that had doors or buttons that moved with the elevator. I don't.

That tutorial was meant to show, that with a deep understanding of how things worked and a little testing, you can make almost anything happen.
I also did it to show the Spirit Devotee's that you don't need Spirit :-)

Why change levels... Just have an elevator that closes it's doors, rumbles and opens the other doors...
Hlaf-Life is mainly about illusion. The trick is to make it seem that you have gone up... After all, who else is going to see the elevator move?

ermm ive never played Half Life in my life except once on training :P ive always played cs and if there where 2 sets of doors(below and above) they can still eb seen on my map as the wallas are further away from them and adding in walls would look dodgy :/ u should make a tut with SCREENSHOTS or even btter with a cam corder recrdoing the screen or using a PC camera. It would be much better but at the mo its looks messy and its very hard :/(my map elavator not ur tut :P )

another thing u never use level change places in cs. No map ever has had one! Due to it would spoil aspects of the game and loading time, and people lagging, ect. loada things..

Why....
Because CS is simple.
Once again, you are trying to add stuff into a multiplayer game that it wasn't designed to have. People have been trying to complicate CS for ages (And Failed), but most of it's apeal comes from it's simplicity.
That is why nearly all the elevators in CS are broken.........

Read some CS theory tutorials, they will tell you, that the best maps don't even have moving doors!

de_dust? de_dust2? no moving stuff getting in the way..

elavators in cs havent failed. cs_matrix (the lobby scene from the matrix one and its a massive map) has a few elavators in it and they work very well with it. Andy i dont think uve played cs yet tbh :/ play 1.6 thats the newest version and find a map called cs_matrix . THE ELEVATOR IS THE LAST THING I NEED TO MY MAP THEN I CAN SEND IT IN!! its big ....

You have 3 posts going at once.... All deal with the same thing.

I have played CS, I still play CS... although I admit that I haven't upgraded to v1.6, but after searching the web I can't seem to find the link between cs_matrix and the official 1.6 release. Is it part of the new upgrade, or is it a custom map?
If it is custom, then ask the person who built it how they did it.
The elevator tutorial was designed for Half-Life. It was never designied for inclusion in a CS map.
Try a CS website and post your question there...

u have to get a program called STEAM u can get this literally anywhere. Its 1.6 and 2 when u get it search for the map cs_matrix. And i have used these forums since i started my map. Sound,jump objects, pushables, mounted guns all have workd for my map and people have played it. I checked the elvator in cs_matrix and its got the 4 path poins on the doors and one in the middle of the ele just like ur tut example map.

cs_matrix is NOT an official CS map. It was not released with the 1.6 upgrade.
How did you get the cs_matrix.rmf or map to find the information about the path corners ????????
And if it is just like the tut example.... then why don't you spend some time building one until you get it to work?
