how do i view hl's levels in worldcraft/hammer when they are in .bsp files? is this possible? if so how? Does any1 know how the creators of counter-life put money into the game? did they code?

You can not view any of the original BSP's from Half-Life in Hammer.
As for the money in Counter-life? no idea.
In counter-strike I believe they borrowed a lot of ideas from TFC using goal values. But I do beileve it is coded into the .dll

why didn't valve give people the .rmf files so people could learn stuff?

Probably the same reason Bill Gates won't release Windows Code...
Valve started HERC, then VERC then Collective. All of these sites were open to all for discussion of HL related mapping. They included the largest entity base and tutorial section around.

That was 5 years ago.... but the original RMF's are still copyrighted. As it is, there is a lot of discussion in the community about wether Valve used WorldCraft/ValveCraft or whatever to produce the maps...

Either way, the HL2 SDK is about to be launched.... so hang onto your hats.

Aw, seventh, why did you do that?

I know we hate decompilers, but winBSP is crap. Just don't mention the other one....the good one....
It's almost impossible to steal with winBSP.

Vassy, apart from your picture scaring my dog, I would like to point out that up until your post everyone was happily skirting around the Decompile issue! There were enough clues given... Please refrain from stating the obvious in future (Ed: Andy)

I posted yet another comment I hope the author answers on VERC, asking why the program isn't open-source ;)

Some map (.rmf) files are included as part of SDK 2.2. They are c1a0.rmf and c1a0d.rmf. There's also an env_beam.rmf example. I haven't had a look at them yet (had the damn thing for ages, just been too slack)

Sorry 'bout all that....and we're not saying how you get them, unless you can guess.....which I hope you can't.

ok... If I can put together a decent post :lo:beetween the laughing salvos from Andy's ed.

Seriously, you don't need a decompiler. If you read some of the tutorials, look around on the forums and then open up the map in HL you would wish to copy something from. I can imagine a lot of different ways or approaches to this problem appearing in your head then.

How could this be done? a trigger_once to a multimanager to... etc?
Then you start to try out stuff and eventually get it working. :D

And you will feel much better too than if you had decompiled, I can promise you that.
