How do i open the Half Life 1 single player maps with hammer? (the half life 1 main story maps)

You can't, unless you decompile the maps. That is decompiling the bsp back to .map so that they can be opened in Hammer. However, doing so completely makes the map uneditable. Decompiling is only usefull when you want to see how certain entity setups are done. Brushwork will be totally screwed up.

Also, decompiling maps and use stuff from it is considered stealing. Contact the author for permission first.

They used Ripent for that, but you can't do much with that.

I was just planning on making a scene where the player passes through a small, memorable area from hl1.. not steal anything How do i decompile a bsp to a map? And how do i use Ripent..?

Or maybe they took the effort to redo those areas, like Muzzleflash's Uplink Extended

Yeah, its much more rewarding to study and remake areas rather than steal them. Plus that way you won't be dis-respected.

I wouldn't exactly consider copying from Valve's maps stealing, since nobody is even going to care. If it came from the original game, the content is already there, so it's not like some mapper is being ripped off. In any case, You still gain a lot of experience from rebuilding maps like that, so you should definitely take that route.

If you're really intent on seeing some of the source files, you could download the full SDK, which includes c1a0, and a small map containing Gordon's locker.

Thank you, Kasp. :)

Yeah, i don't think Valve cares when you use their SP maps.
