Hey guys. I've been mapping for hl1 for quite some time and now that i've swicted to vista, my computer doesnt like hammer 3.4 OR 3.5 anymore. So i'm finishing up my compo map and heading over to source.

Any tips on where to start? Or what to make first?
I have experience with cubemaps, water, displacements, but the trigger system is greek to me.

I thought I might add that from what I've heard Hammer lags like a bitch when Vista is installed.

I'm assuming it has something to do with how the level is rendered in Hammer.

I'm assuming it has somthing to do with vista's general suckage.

Most old DirectX applications run like crap on Vista.

Not to mention the RAM and CPU power both Vista and Hammer 4 suck up

Hammer 4 is fine. And the newer DX are amazing on vista. Its just something with the old hammer. i Dont know.

So back to actual sugestions... A forest?? i've already made one of those lol. Didnt look too great, but whatever.

vista doesn't suck. It's just very new.

Any suggestions for trigger based maps or layouts or anything? Something that will give me a better feel for the new entities?

I suppose mess around with displacements and just have fun...Don't bother working on a full map yet since they require so much work and I think you should be confident with the new options available etc.

Learn to use cubemaps and so on and enjoy.

Well thats why i need help. what should i try doing i have no idea where to start
