Thats right guys, I just bought a new $1600 PC. Specs are'nt perfect but its good. Main thing, is I'll be able to start my half-life stuff up again! I'm excited.

Went to install Half-Life 1 Anthology, and got that damn 'Unable to find Steam.dll.' error.. :furious: so I'll have to fix that.. anyone else have that problem? How do I fix it. I ran into the problem a while ago as well, I just forgot how I fixed it.. I think it has something to do with the directory... Anyways guys.. be back soon.

A $1600 dollar computer better be good.

That's well over enough for a quad core, 8800 GTX beast of a machine.

You bought a new computer? So... does this have Vista? Specs please.

P.S.
Luke is right, but only if you'd built it. It costs so much more to buy prebuilt computers.

Im buying a new one for 1200 this summer. Specificy for crysis.

Core 2 Duo, 4GB of ram, 320GB HD, 8800GTX or equivelent... 19" widescreen, etc.

Then I promised myself to map for crysis within a week of its comming out. Then jump back into source with a computer that can actually run hammer 4.

Oh, and welcome back...

You... what? You don't have the specs yet? Are you insane or something? You buy a $1600 computer and don't even know what the specs are?

Well there's obviously more to it than that.

bioshock ^_^

crysis (in dx10) isnt worth it, just play it in dx9. i used vista a few weeks ago, it really is bloatware, the 'user-friendliness' is just 'showy effects', 'limited functionality', and 'numerous repeated "ARE YOU REALLY REALLY SURE YOU WANT TO OPEN THE CONTROL PANEL???" messages'

its much less functional then XP, maybe updates will enable a 'turn bloat off' feature.....

they should have called it byoshock to compete. How witty and zany would that be? You'd see it in a shop and go "woah. that's zany."

I had a new laptop just so I could at least play HL2. Problem is, Steam doesnt want me to so that's the end of it.

No more HL2 for me. :(

No HL2? That's seriously screwed up man.

Yep. Steam thinks I own someone elses copy of the game (even though I dont) and wont let me play it. Basically, I'll have to buy another copy of HL2 if I need to play it. Plus my laptop is having major issues with internet connection, so all in all - it's too much hassle so I wont bother. I'll buy another game for it one day, something that you dont need that stupid "steam" crap for. I's thinkin' Tiberian Wars...

My PC from 2003 is still fine for everything I do. I don't get people that buy a new computer before a new version of Windows.

"HP Pavilion a255c"

Pentium 4 2.66GHz (No Core/ HT/ other crap)
512MB of PC2700 DDR RAM
120GB Harddrive that spins at 5400RPM & uses Ultra DMA
Nvidia Geforce4 MX 440 (4x AGP due to motherboard limitations)

Runs Source games at 50fps
Rips dvd movies with handbrake at 115% real time
Rips music CDs with LAME at 1500% real-time
Takes 20 minutes to boot up (stupid Norton 2007)
Posted 16 years ago2007-05-21 19:07:01 UTC Post #222879
By saying your computer is still 'fine' is contradictory to you telling us it takes 20 minutes to boot up.

It's fine as the last time I needed to boot up was 1/2 a year ago. I set my computer to go to sleep after 30 minutes and stop the hard drive after 60.

50 FPS in Source on a MX440? Maybe if you're running everything on low settings/software mode. People upgrade to, y'know, run things at maximum settings...

1024 x 768, No filtering (bilinear), DX7, blob shadows/reflections, medium textures/ models/ etc, full screen, props fade past 20ft., high quality sound, no vsync. I thought my system wouldn't be able to run it at all so this is ok.

I played Unreal II on my old computer (many, many years ago), and when I played it again on my current computer, it looks utterly amazing.

Playing a game at maximum setting (and being the right person at the wrong time) can make all the difference in the world.
