I have no idea why this has started happening but every now and again at completely random moments my PC disconnects itself from the net and will not reconnect without restarting the damn thing. The modem doesn't loose the DSL signal, I've scanned for viruses and gone over my PC, unplugging everything. Anyonw know why this would happen?

And this has happened for how long? Is it possible the company is just having trouble? Phone them and ask them if they are having problems.

Not according to him. I'd rather not call BT. Last time I had a problem it took 2 months and ?100 for them to sort it.

Saying that the system went down at work the other day and we recieved a call from head office to say that one of the servers at BT had fallen over.

Bleh BT...Go Virgin :) Mind you I'm not happy with their services and high prices...But 20MB is good enough for me ;D

Perhaps email then...

if youre on wireless and your reciever is plugged in through a usb port, rearrange your usb plugs so its in the first plug. Worked for me after my internet would randomly disconnect

Not wireless.

It just cut off again and I've discovered the problem. My modem is malfunctioning. It seems to be overheating. All I needed to do was re-enable the connection and I've moved it away from my tower to see if that helps.

Thanks anywayz

Torrents fill up your modems cashe with IP addresses, so after a little while its essentially a bufferoverflow and nothing gets through. but it still reads connection for a short time.

Some routers do collapse under Torrenting. Mine falls apart when I try to run nmap through it.

I think I might have had something similar. Can you try logging off / out of your user and then back on without restarting and see if it starts working again?

Otherwise... I have some other ideas too.

Oh really? So how do you clean it up?
