Ok im new to this and came to this site refered to by a friend i was wondering how do you start making the map for dod? do you have to have half life 1 or 2 for mapping for dod?

You need Half-Life 1 to run DoD, since DoD is a mod for HL1.

MuzzleFlash is wrong! Yay! As far as STEAM goes (not Retail, otherwise it IS a mod) you do NOT need Half-Life 1. I got Day of Defeat... then maybe 4-5 months later I bough Half-Life 1...

Ok heres the problem if i only need DoD then do i just go to my program off of my desk top for the hammer 3.4 and 3.5?

.. you'll also need to configure hammer for DoD. Follow this tutorial and you're set :)
