Hi, i am a noob. Tried Source modeling setup by BJ. Did everything mentioned in the tutorial. I need to import model created in 3ds max. Everything went alright upto compiling the model. The .mdl and other files were successfully created in the [steam-logon]half-life 2hl2models[model-name] folder. But, once i tried using the .mdl file in Hammer (last step in the tutorial), the object was displayed in pink checker design. Pls help.

3 factors that could cause the checker:
1. Ensure the .QC file points to the correct material directory
2. Check the formating of your VMT file, make sure it's vertexlit
also use "$model" "1"
3. Check there's no errors when compiling the SMD (problem I had)

If you have an error during export to SMD the log will tell you which object is the problem. In Max press "H" to "Select from Scene" and you can select the problem by name.

Thanks. It is showing. But, the normal map is not getting compiled. That is, the normal maps are not having any effect after compiling

Normal maps dont show in hammer/HLMV.Check them in game...

Yes, i tested it ingame. That is, after using the run command (F9).

Well, in that case you can experiment with vmt of your model - normal maps can be applied to any compiled model, no recompile needed (use command "mat_reloadallmaterials" after vmt changing to see changes without restarting game).
