What a pain in the urethra! : P

A couple updates probably still forthcoming, but I must admit I'm pretty sick of working on this one... even more tedious than the mobius/Klein challenge! : O

This would be absolutely amazing to do with the source engine... you HL2 guys should do one! = )

I should have spent more time on mine. I rushed it, 'cause I had homework that day.

Very very sweet Captain Terror, my favorite part was that plane, looks like a real one. Maybe I will finish mine tomorrow...

Pretty darn neat!

I only have a problem with the lighting. Looks dull. And whats the deal with the long corridor and the weird light emitting wall? Whats the point of that?

The main room was awesome! Good mapping. :)

I just realised that I never commented on your map CT - sorry about that.
Overall, it was very good. All I could find wrong with it was the fact that some of the the mechanisms were a bit too big - it gave the impression that I was four feet tall.

Thanks for the comments! = )

TJB: Thanks! You did yours really fast... I would never have been able to finish what you did in that one day or so... heck, I wouldn't have even been able to think of the ideas for the mechanisms that quick! : P

btw I rescaled some things like mop (it was like 10-feet tall), and the changes will be in the next compile if i do one.

MuzzleFlash: Thanks! those areas with the wall textlights were never inteneded to be seen by the player. will be fixed in the next version if there is one. = )

Redka: Thanks! I hope you do! = )

Daubster/Tetsu0/everyone: I hope we get more entries, plus sometime down the road maybe have a part II to this! you could do a themed challenge, like, make a RG machine from only those items you'd find at a BLANK, or just do another one... it's tedious but fun!

Ohh yeah, done. After many runtime error, I had to go back to my previously saved map, and recreate the last part, which made me really nervous.
See my entry here . Anyone knows what cause this problem (just to avoid it in the future):

Awsome Redka!

Those spheres are damn perfectly round... I really need to get my QuArK up and running... I downloaded it and installed, but it's so different and I'm so lazy, I haven't done much more than set up the paths and open it up. :)

Nice world props two, though they would look MUCH sexier with nicer texturing: A l ot of the the objects appear flat-shaded.

Yeah yer right! = )

I know most of the people involved in these challenges are busy doing a million things at once, Like Daubster is coding 15 mods, facilitating various things at TWHL, and lord only knows what else. Everyone else seems pretty busy too.

Rimrook's modeling thread and work are taking up most of my time, plus now that compo 25 is here, most of my time (and most others) will go into that.

I'm sure these challenges will start up again when compo 25 is over and we're all bored for something to do again! = )

I guess we could do the voting for rube goldberg challenge since nobody else is entering. If anybody has an unfinished WIP for this challenge (tetsu0, Daub, Others?), please submit it so we can reach maximum lulz potential! :P

My vote goes to TJB.

He finished off his entry in mere "minutes" with original/interesting mechanisms, with the aim of the machine to kill the player, which was a great idea too.

I would just like to thank my family, for being so supportive, and my friends, for inspiring me, and I just wish that Tiny Tim could be here with us today.
But seriously I will have to postpone my voting, because I haven't played Redka's map yet.

TJB wins! Congratulations sir. = >

I'd imagine we'll take a hiatus while compo 25
is going on, but it's to you to choose the next
entity challenge. (if you have an idea for the
next one, no reason not to bring it up to give
us some time to think about it!)

Remember, winning/selecting the next challenge
doesn't preclude you from participating
in it!

Thanks to Daubster for a fun challenge idea! = >

I have an extremely late entry to the first challenge regarding a timer in Half-Life. The timer is only one part of this completed practice map. Please read the description for a full explanation of its purpose. I uploaded a map to the vault as 5065 which can be viewed here, granted that it zipped properly:

http://twhl.co.za/vault.php?map=5065

I would appreciate any comments, good or bad regarding this entry.

Thanks

I have to admit that the only idea that I've had in two months is to make some kind of machine that kills scientists, and processes them into beefburgers.
If anyone thinks that idea sucks, feel free to come up with one yourself.

@username - I downloaded your map, but haven't had time to play it yet. It looks good from the screenshot though.

lawl i thought you were serious! I was thinking of all sorts of ways to "process" the scientists into burgers! o well... = )
Captain Terror Captain Terrorwhen a man loves a woman
Posted 15 years ago2008-05-02 19:58:18 UTC Post #249525
I was serious. When I said beefburgers, that was just because if somebody says burger instead of beefburger, then I assume they mean including the buns and condiments. I doubt you'd get them out of a scientist no matter how much you process them.
After posting the idea I realised that you wouldn't get beef from them either, since cows generally don't make good scientists. :D

I was envisioning a conveyor with these stages (more or less)

1. lure him to the conveyor somehow
2. play nice music to calm him
3. knock him on the head to daze
4. have lazors shoot his clothes off (custom skin lawl?)
5. then do all sorts of nasty cutting, deboning, and grinding
6. have the nice ground scientist meat shoot out of nozzles onto plates
8. fry the burgers
9. serve at the black mesa cafeteria!

I was thinking that he should be:
1. Tricked on ('these moving walkways seem like a wonderful idea! I wonder where it goes to?'),
2. Put into a coma with some kind of electrical arc,
3. Have his throat slit,
4. Gruesomely dismembered.
5. Eaten by scientists who are then invited to 'try out the new moving walkways'.

I was thinking like this:

Machine one:
A teleport/cloning device that keeps spawning scientist.

Machine two:
Big rotating saws that kills most of the scientists. The rests are killed by lasers, or flames.

Machine three:
Processes the gibs by crushing them into burgers.

Machine four:
Packages the burgers.

Machine five:
A robot that moves the burgers to another room, that is part of a super market.

All machines are turned off when you start, and you have to activate them with buttons.
