Do units correspond to the real world unlike HL1? I set units to feet/inches and made a 8x8 square and it seems too small. If you know dimensions of what your building is it advisable to use them?

right but if you set to inches/feet, and your building your house that is 30 feet long my question is: can you make it 30 feet long in hammer and it should be correct/proportional?

72 units to be exact, HL has always treated the units as inches, so gordon is 6 feet.

i'm pretty sure that source is the same as goldsource when it comes to proportions. rely more on your eye to judge distances.

Yeah, height seems right, but widths seem too skinny.
