Hey guys, I was recently vac banned for using aimbot in counter-strike, and now it won't allow me to run L4D with a couple friends. I don't understand that though, if I make the server, there should be a way to disable VAC for the server, but I don't know how to, any help at all would be appreciated.

You seriously used an aimbot in cs? >.> But was it CS:S? Source bans don't count towards Goldsource games, and vice-versa.

VAC is global. Check your Steam settings, you get a black mark against your account. Otherwise, i don't know how you bypass it!

yea I know Hunter, I figured I might as well have some fun on a certain server, and atm it was supposedly vac proof, and the next day it was detected. I used the hack before I checked the cheats status. :( Shame on me, I know.. but yea, its for cs:s.

So theres no way to disable vac in l4d as far as everybody knows?

I think if I was to set up a dedicated server I'd be aloud in.. but then I can't play... feck... what to do?

Pro Tip: Cheating gets you banned.

You know, I have been reading about a lot of these vac and other bans on other gaming forum boards too, they seem to be increasing all of a sudden. Now, many of these other bans are due to pirated games being used to play online. The one company that seems to be taking the lead in banning, is Microsoft. Just in the last month, they have banned thousands of Xbox Live & Windows Live accounts.

Sure hope you didnt buy L4D on that account. Your best bet is to make a new account, and buy all the games you want. Yeah, you DO have to buy them again. And I'd take extra precaution and make sure there is no trace of the cheat on your HDD, otherwise you just risk getting your new account banned.

At least VAC is better than Punkbuster.

At least VAC catches cheaters, whereas punkbuster just annoys the hell out of everyone without even doing its job.

Sorry that you got banned, I don't know what else to say other than, why did you cheat!?

Kinda stupid, but it sucks that you cant get your playing ability back :(

If you used a hack, you deserve to be banned. Congratulations.

See, that's the thing about this, what if no hacks were used, but still got banned? Sure, if you used a hack, you deserve a ban. But what I have been hearing around and got a bunch of people confused is there were a while back a lot of underserved bannings from "false positives". Now, some of these gaming companies that are doing the bannings are saying they have fixed the false positives discrepancies.........Have they really? Do you buy in to this?

If Valve, Microsoft or any other company out there doing these bannings are not more careful and start eliminating false positives, I can see eventually lawsuits by disgruntled gamers popping up.........

to be honest, tito - I rather suspect most of those "honest player" stories are just people denying that they cheated. VAC is held with pretty high regard.

yeah tito, most people who say they got banned without hacking are just lying on top of cheating.

At least Unbreakable has the stones to say he knowingly used a hack.

You might be right. It's also interesting how you said "most of those honest player" instead of saying "all of those honest player". I think you suspect something, but only a bit. I remember reading this interview from one of Valve's executives, he was asked about false positives on cheating, and his response was "we are still working on that issue". Man, I wish I knew where the hell I saw that at, it was about a year ago, but I can't remember now. As soon I find a link to this interview, I will post it. I do agree with you that some of these banned players are lying, but I am also sure some are innocent. Like you said, VAC is held with pretty high regard, and I agree, but I also say that as good as it might be, it's not 100% perfect, therefore not 100% fool proof. NOTHING ON EARTH IS. Remember, the system is only as good as the people behind it, it only takes on mistake from just one person to throw everything off.

I thought this was going to be about some kind of weird in-game music thing related to Valve Anti-Cheat. Disappointment has set in.

VAC is a bit on the unfair side, in my own humble opinion. At worst, you have some fun for a bit in one game, and and one day your entire account gets blacklisted forever. Cry me a fucking river, but hacking can be really, really fun. Anyway there's nothing that can be changed, so blah. You're fucked, and should have been more careful. What's done is done.

You can play in your own dedicated server over Steam. Your PC will take hit if its not a power PC, but hey, it's still more reliable than a listen server. If the server uses the same interface as other Valve games, you should be able to disable VAC when you pick the game.

when I got CS I hacked and got banned. A year later I was unbanned. This was ages ago anyway :P

anyway, back onto the topic. When I host for goldsource, it gives me the option before I start the server whether it is VAC protected or not, it is pretty easy to see, so maybe l4d just doesn't give you that option.

Yes, from CS:S I agree. But I'm talking about L4D here..

Who asked you to speak anyway?

I knew this thread would turn into this. WTF. I hacked. Big deal. I wanted to have some fun and terrorize a bunch of little kids.
I never in any way have affected your gameplay Penguinboy, so come on.
You make it sound like I just stole some candy, and I deserve to be in prison. Who cares.
The point of this thread was the fact that I should still be able to host a server with it having VAC disabled on it.
Anyways I put in '-unsecure' in the launch properties so at least we can play it on a lan at school. Fuckin' fun shit :P

Anyways theres a pack with everything in it for $99 through steam, I might pick that up instead and make a new account..

You broke the rules. You pay for it. It's a simple concept that society has been maintaining for a long time now. And there is no way to justify breaking it.

Dont want to have people's opinion dont make a thread about it.

Sorry pepper, I should have named this thread "L4D Server Access Trouble"
I think alot of people on this forum are missing the point of this thread.

Admin, can you close this thread. Thanks.

Cheating in online multiplayer games has UTTER FAIL written all over it. Cheating in offline singleplayer games is fine though.

I don't think you need to tell Unbreakable how bad it is. He probably learned his lesson when he got banned and I can't see how doing what you are doing would help in any way.
