Okay, as you can see, I need help. I need voice actors, to be precise. Anyone who can do voice acting in english and is interested in making Colony 42 finish, please apply! I have small roles: a Comns. officer, a Command officer,)
and a big(ish) role: Charlie, the player's superior officer. When I get an application, I'll add update this.
PM me for the lines, The first two have 2 lines each, and Charlie has 10, a few of which are long/require more emotion then the others.

Anyone and everyone who gets the parts will be credited, Thanks in advance!
EDIT: The Hunter has volenteered for one of the smaller parts. I still need another small actor and one who's up for a decently sized amount of talking.

:) YES! The GOOD OLD DAYS! Wish I was around back then... OK, Urby... Do you want the big part, or one of the small parts? And either accent will do. Just use your normal voice if you want, since it's an EARTH space station, not a (Insert country here) space station.

Righto. Give me your small one. Meaning the small part. "Oh jesus that still sounds awful"

I would take a larger one but I've got a lot of my own stuff to finish up.

What is wrong with me today!?

I haven't tried voice acting since I was fourteen, and needless to say I sounded like shit faking an adult voice. I might still, but I don't know. I still have my 200+ dollar unused voice recording equipment hooked up (shit is SO cash), so give me a line or two and I'll give it a shot. No guarantees though, as I might decide I still sound shit.

What a monotone voice
Posted 15 years ago2009-01-18 20:22:58 UTC Post #261735
Not really.. I think it could have a place as some sort of informing character. Doesn't really sound like a main character type voice though.

I could voice act if I had a suitable microphone that didn't suck ass.

Same as Srry right here. Wednesday Morning is looking good :)

Also, now that I've pretty much been funnelled into the Commander role, I'll be using my upper class British skillz. :)

I apologize to whoever I sent the Medic lines to. I could have sworn It was tetsu0. And glad to hear it, Urby.
New lines for anyone trying out for Charlie:

Oscar, don't break that!

Oscar? OSCAR! Are you okay down there? There's a duct cover in there. Try to open it somehow. I'll get James to let that deck know you're down there.

If you're not busy... I realized I needed him to yell at the player when they break the cover in the commander's room, and then call out instructions when they fell AFTER I sent you the PM.

Well Jeff, I got those two lines all done for you, but if you want lipsyncing to work on your models I believe they're gonna have to be 8 bit. And won't you know it, when I convert them to 8 bit mono they sound like absolute shit. Totally unusable. It sounds like a 747 is taking off in the background and a hairdryer is being blown into the mic at the same time.

I've run into the same problem before.

By the way, I notice everyone else is putting in a bunch of radio-like voice effects and stuff... am I supposed to be doing that too?
Posted 15 years ago2009-02-01 00:02:57 UTC Post #262207
Actually, only Huntey added radio effects.

perhaps if you hired out a real studio with a real sound engineer. i bet they know what they're doing. can fix the sounds real good with real recording software and real good condencer mics and pop-filters

Yeah, that's a real fantastic idea NineTnine. Hire out a sound studio. No problem at all there. What with Jeff's bottomless pit of a bank account, I'm sure he can just toss a cool ten thousand into hiring out a studio for his personal hobbies and all. Shit, everybody does that.
Posted 15 years ago2009-02-01 10:13:36 UTC Post #262219
Can it really be that complicated to record voice acting and lipsyncing? (I don't see how it could be) Maybe try contacting dudes from other mods and see how they did it?

My friend records his own music to an old fourtrack and it sounds professional--to me anyway. He says mixing and recoding isn't hard on a computer but he prefers doing it the old-fashioned way.

It seems like a relatively simple/easy thing to do... but i don't really know things... = )

Yeah i've went into the studio a lot. The lowest price i had was $300 for a hellova long time. I don't remember exactly what the hours were, but we got 2 songs recorded, mixed and mastered.

Jeez... I leave for 24 hours and so many things to answer...
when I convert them to 8 bit mono they sound like absolute --
Yeah... The quality really goes downhill when you do that, unless they're recorded in 8-bit.
I notice everyone else is putting in a bunch of radio-like voice effects and stuff
Yeah, but so far I don't need it. Besides, I have software that can add those.
What with Jeff's bottomless pit of a bank account, I'm sure he can just toss a cool ten thousand into hiring out a studio for his personal hobbies and all.
I'm all but certain you're being sarcastic, but still... :walter:
I've had pretty good luck making the sounds fairly acceptable when I put them down to 8-bit, perhaps my software (which my parents got for my brithday a year back), being comercial, can do it. Send me a link if you want me to try.
EDIT: The last Charlie lines have been implemented, and I'm glad to say they include an in-joke.

Yeah, I don't really know how to record in 8 bit using Goldwave. The way they seem to have it set up, it's only an 8 bit file after you've already saved it. You can't really seem to record in 8 bit.

Edit: Okay, apparently Adobe Audition allows you to record in 8 bit... that's what I just read.

Edit: It now appears that recording in 8 bit is not in fact limited by software, but by hardware. My hardware, as well as most other hardware is just too new to support anything lower than 16 bit recording.

I can now record pretty good in 8 bit with Windows Sound Recorder. I'll just use that.

Heck, dont you guys live near a school? srry, your like in year 11 this year, your school should have ... you know? music rooms? with recording rooms? That you can, you know, like use for free. Even better if your doing an audio design class, you can get marks for it!
good mics, good recording room, good marks.

well, thats what i mean, college - year 11 and 12. but education things differ between countrys. So yes, schooling between high school and uni

Indeed, year 11 and 12 mean nothing to me.

But i know very few people who go onto uni after college. It's kinda.. one or the other depending on what you want to do.

really? Here you have to do college BEFORE you can enter uni (unless you enter mature age student).
Well, here doing college/trade/work activity thing is compulsory, college is more mainstream
