?400 million ($668 million) will be spend on installing and monitoring CCTV cameras in the homes of private citizens. Why? To make sure the kids are doing their homework, going to bed early and eating their vegetables.
Wat?

As a Brit, i can tell you that the Daily Express are not the most reliable source. Some twattish Tory spokesperson might have said it, resulting in them reporting it as fact.

but all these stories have some basis of truth, and that terrifies me.

the UK is going down the shitter. When you guys are done with Obama, can we have him?

what, so the next time a child watches a violent movie late on the TV, hes going to be chased down and spanked by that guy?

I think this idea is absurd and the guy who came up with it should be slapped for even thinking about it.

Blindness affects us all. Can't you see the signs ? Extreme pollution, ice caps melt, sea levels rising, we can't leave the trend of consuming huge amounts of energy, 20% of the population uses 80% of the energy, economical crysis, stupid ideeas actualy put in practice.... we're heading towards our self distruction. Call me a pesimist, if you want.

Yeah, people complain about having their privacy invaded in public areas, how do you cope with getting changed in front of video cameras? It's like a perverts dream, legally spying on families every activity. Honestly, instead of benefiting these "problem families", wouldn't they predict stress levels and paranoia to go through the roof when they're being monitored 24/7?

Oh, and by the way, is this program voluntary or what? I don't think an involuntary program of this nature could really work out, it would be way too easy for non compliant families to simply tear the surveillance equipment out.

Not only is Obama not a socialist, socialism has nothing to do with privacy or security issues.
Posted 14 years ago2009-08-04 21:49:21 UTC Post #271440
socialism has nothing to do with privacy or security issues.
You are right, socialism has nothing to do with privacy. That's because in socialist countries like China, North Korea, Cuba and a few others, there is very little or no privacy rights to speak of, so therefore "privacy" is not even an issue to talk about as far as socialism is concern.
Not only is Obama not a socialist
Ah, if only you really knew.....

But I won't get in to that argument with you here, there's just way too much stuff to cover with that story and I don't have the patients for it right now. Anyway, that Obama/Joker picture was just too funny not to use on this thread, it just fitted right in so nicely.
Posted 14 years ago2009-08-04 21:54:38 UTC Post #271441
Is this one of those "Fox news reports that Obama is a socialist" things?

Anyway, let's not do the political argument thing here. I don't know shit about politics and I'd like to keep it that way.

Let's just keep being friendly and talking about that new British pay-per-view voyeur pornography tv show.

He's not blaming the economic down spin on Obama, but mearly predicting that the US will more or less hit another depression even greater than the one we are in now if he keeps up with his current policy agenda.

I'm in slight agreement. Setting up a several trillion dollar health care policy during one of the worst depressions since the one in the 1920's / 30's isn't the best idea he's had.

On top of that, the only economic stimulus that I've seen work so far is the "cash for clunkers" campaign they just rejuvenated. Hell, Ford is seeing an increase in profits. That alone is amazing.

I can already hear the sound of the Overwatch in Britain:
"Citizen - you are convicted of anti-social behavior. Please report to the nearest precinct and receive your verdict."

I hope people can begin to understand why Americans are so adamant about their gun rights. It wasn't too long ago that the Brits had these same rights. Then once the government took that right away, they've been slowly stripping away civil liberties ever since. It's sad how much 1984 is starting to come true over there.

Again, the economic theory does not deal with the issue at all. Hence: it has nothing to do with socialism. But yes, lets not get into that here :) .
