Hey, Im using Valve Hammer Editor quite freqently and just a few weeks ago I upgraded my computer, from a AMD quad, 9500 GT to a i7 930 with 5850 gfx card, windows 7 pro.
The problem Ive got with the new computer is that Valve Hammer Editor lags really hard, cant move the 3d window properly and the 2d windows lags even with the arrows. Not sure what to do to fix this, so I ask you guys, hope anybody has encounted this problem before. Ive already had to download a .dll file for ATI card, so 3d window works(clickable) but everything still lags quite alot. Ive got ATI drivers uptodate aswell. Cheers!

the latest ATI drivers (ever since the 10_2 update) have all supported hammer 3-D selections without the add-on dll. But anyway, my gut tells me its not a graphics card issue, and maybe an issue with windows 7, but I don't have 7 so I don't really know.

You don't need a custom dll, the ati driver work properly.

Try re-installing and be sure to remove the custom dll.

Unfortunatly this is a problem with both ATi cards and new Windows operating systems. I still run XP on my PC so I guess I'm lucky, however I've tried Hammer on several different PC's using Vista / 7 and it has never been a smooth ride. It's probably just time to move on. (Source) :P

It doesn't lag anywhere near as much for me when I set the 3D view to flat shaded, try that.

Urby: When you say "new operating systems" are you referring to Windows 7 as well? I was just about to upgrade to 7, but i'll think twice if it's gonna dick over my Goldsource editing.. =(

No problems for me - Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, AMD Phenom 940 (quad 3GHz), 4GB 1066DDR2, ATi 4870 (10.3 drivers - will update to 10.7 today)

I've never had that trouble, and I've used 9.11 and 10.1 since using Win7. I've been mapping for source though, not goldsource.

@CT, Yeah, he says he tried vista and 7 and it wasn't very successful.

Negative. Tried an NVidia machine running the lastest drivers on Windows Vista and it is unusable due to lag.

I have Windows 7 64-bit with Nvidia 260 GTX, and no problem here.

I have 8 GB of memory. How much do you have? Maybe that's the issue?
