Haha, that's pretty cool. Do you have better pictures of em? The 'what' kinda ruins it.

I have this flat screwdriver here and it doesn't work on cross screws, they're too big. Guess I gotta find another one... :(

Also, there's a random rainbow on the moon atm. What?

Pretty stupid how there are two types of Screws, Why make a Cross and a Flat, why not just One of them.

Yeah but there are also 'star' screws.

You know, today I was trying to open an old 4 gb HDD that had these star screws(actually I think they're called torx screws) with a flat head screwdriver. Couldn't, so I used some pliers and force opened them instead :D.

It was an absolute pleasure to watch the HDD spin at 5400 RPM. Also, if I left my finger in the center of the metal platter, without tense, it would start to rotate at a speed such incredible that I could only see it blurred.
It was an awesome finger massage sensation.

There are more than 20 screw head types.

Most common are Flat, Plus, Star and Torex.

Wait, is that a group of photos of Half-life/2 textures in real life? (ie, the source material)

jeffmod is the winner. and over in the US of A, the terminology for the plus screwdrivers are "Phillips"

That's not just in the US. The Phillips screw head is universal.

I'd say this was offtopic, except frankly the only purpose of this thread appears to be Dragos pulling down his briefs and mooning us, since presumably he hasn't been given permission to share the photos.

And then I looked closer at the pictures and realised and went "WHAT!"

Just goes to show that people who labor over a texture for hours to get it looking realistic... well... you are Valve's bitch.

Grab a camera, go outside (that's the big ass room with no ceiling) and start snapping.

wow thats pretty cool. to think people were walking around and went "hey, that actually looks like the containers from Half Life. oh wait! it actually is"
Posted 13 years ago2011-08-03 00:35:09 UTC Post #297295
It's not people who have found what the textures were based on, NineTnine, it's the original collection of photos that Valve used to make the textures for Half-Life.
