That is impressive. They really want to compete with UDK.

I think that UDK is still lightyears ahead of SDK.

Meet the Pyro was disappointing compared to Meet the Medic.

It had an ok premise, but it went on for too long.

Meet the Pyro was ok. The only problem in my eyes was that it probably didn't live up to the hype. However, I have learned long before now not to bother getting hyped up for anything. You guys should learn that yourselves pretty sharpish to avoid future disappointment.

Prepare for the worst.

I got home from work today and watched Meet the Pyro, and I enjoyed it. Alternatively, I could have died in a car crash.

Meet the Pyro was pretty good, in my opinion.

I mean, seriously. Where you expecting to see what you saw in that video?

And you guys should realize these are just TF2 TRAILERS.
Dimbeak DimbeakRotten Bastard
Posted 12 years ago2012-06-27 23:57:59 UTC Post #307463
Never said it wasn't a trailer, but since you mention it a trailer is supposed to make you want to buy a game, or in this case download it. Watching that didn't do it for me.

I probably won't download TF2 ever again, it used to be my favourite online game, now it's just an unbalanced hat party. That's just me though, I guess it's more popular now than it ever was.

And to answer your question, I just expected it be as entertaining as the others are. It was shit to me, but I'm not disappointed since I don't really give a fuck about TF2 any more. Frankly I'd rather play Team Fortress Classic.

Expectations were too high after Spy and Medic were so amazing. It wasn't bad at all, though. I chuckled heartily!

Source Film Maker is awesome. The fact that it comes with the Meet the Heavy source files is mindblowing.

That's incredibly cool.
But isn't Rufee right? Hasn't the Unreal Engine had a tool for this for years?

Also, Meet the Pyro was pretty great :)

You mean Matinee?

It's horrible. And I'm saying that as a film-maker, not as a game designer. UDK is powerful, but Matinee is such an afterthought it's nightmarish. Source Film Maker looks so much more powerful in terms of setting up virtual cameras in scenes, and the animation shown in the demonstration video looks barely less accessible than Gary's Mod.

I am hugely impressed.

This may be shattered when I actually get hands-on with it, but from what I've seen I am very excited.

Honestly, I don't know. I just know I've vaguely heard of a UDK movie tool in the past, and I couldn't be bothered to look it up.
Because I'm lazy.
Posted 12 years ago2012-06-28 02:45:14 UTC Post #307470
However, I have learned long before now not to bother getting hyped up for anything.
To do otherwise is just foolish and you're completely deserving of any and all disappointment that you could get. There are exceptions, but this really should be a general rule of thumb and common sense.

Also matinee is far from horrible, but comparing it to source filmmaker isn't much of a comparison. Source filmmaker is a independent [of source engine] tool designed exclusively for filmmaking, you might as well be comparing udk to 3ds max in terms of their ability to create 3d geometry. If you want to make a comparison, compare the inbuilt tools of source engine to the inbuilt UDK tools.

As for source filmmaker going public soon... I think I'm going to go slam my head through a wall now.

Unreal Matinee is about the easiest thing I have ever seen. It acts just like any 3D application out there and is oh so powerful when mixed with Kismit.

Here is a perfect example: http://youtu.be/JwDjuixA1fA

also check out the samaritan demo, also done using matinee

I think you guys are being to critical, I for one, thought Meet the Pyro was perfect, everything I wanted it to be, and as for the filmmaker? It looks beast.

I'm on vacation right now, so I can't really use the film maker.

But, are you able to make films based on games like HL2 or CSS?

Although only the TF2 art is currently included in the beta.

It doesn't take a genius to just move the other games' resources to the relevant place, though.
