Hmmm 4420 Wpolys so far :D with textures scaled on 2.0

This will be a Hell to reduce.... :D

Anyway my map will be Singleplayer only :)

i cant do 100% the same House, like in the Movie cause of r_speeds and lack of Info but i try to map the original as much as possible.

Halflife.

I didn't bother to look at my r_speeds, they range up to half of templar's house... I don't know what you're doing to get so many polys.

With Null Texture and Func_Details wpolys are @ 2500 max ( but still empty house :D )

I find it funny when you guys are agitated over the 4000 poly count, as if 4000 was a lot of polys. I'm planning to put 100k-400k per area in my map.

GoldSource Skals, it renders differently, 15k poly will make your fastest i7 struggle to put out 100fps.

And rethink about how Eyecandy our Stuff will be atleast with Goldsource ;)

I could too work with UDK or Cry Engine but not for a "Free" Contest.

The prize is a trophy on your page that makes you look baws and would probably look pretty nice on a portfolio along with the reviews and also experience. Oh and a sexy map in your vault and to play every so never. :crowbar:

The sense of accomplishment alone will help make up for the rest of your life you've neglected while making the map.

2000 Wpolys at some spots mostly 1200-1500 :)

rufee: More often than not, it's the competitions you think you've no shot to win that you end up winning!

new mappers make up for there lack of knowledge and experience, with unending creative energy and shear determination, while older mappers weakness is being jaded and overconfident.

Besides, this is looking to be one of the most popular compos of all time, so it's a great opportunity for some of you wallflowers to step up =)

I was not interested in this contest at all, but all the participation is pretty contagious, 'specially with Trempler's rapid-fire WIPs and some of the old greats like Rimrook and Dewdle are in.. this is great =)

Hey now, i don't want to be rude or anything :) but I'm not new to mapping. I probably started before the all mighty Bruce did so that puts some years on me. Though i didn't make much nor particularly good maps. I do have an idea (or a few) that fit this compo, but not sure if could accomplish them in source :(

yeah sorry rufee, it was wrong to make assumptions from only 2 maps in the vault, you could be Gabe Newell for all I know ;)

I haven't come up with an idea for this yeah but I know when I do it will be awesome =)

If I'm so jaded, why am I not bowing out because I have better things to do?
If I'm so overconfident, why am I frantically working now instead of way later in the time alotted because I'm worried I won't live up to my current skill level?

O and 1 question, is it just the looks/design of the map that are being criticized or is it the gameplay as well?

I mean, does a 1v1 map count the same as a 16v16 map?

This is a thematic competition, so I would say this competition is primarily about looks and "vibe". Any kind of single or multi-player gameplay would be a plus though. If two maps were in a tie, the one with gameplay would win against the one without gameplay.

Thanks Trempler. For about an hour and before validating/reinstalling etc. I was having weird lighting and severe slowness issues. I think it's better now, fingers crossed.
