Hello. What can cause this problem? Need to solve this ASAP, my map only needs some finishing touches with models, but this really makes it hard for me to continue.
It used to work on my laptop, but laptop died, hovever I connected HDD from it and used same fgd files (halflife.fgd and zhlt.fgd).
Thanks.

Use Jackhammer. That's my suggestion.

Make sure all your settings are correct when setting your half-life directory and mod directory in Hammer, so it knows where to look for them. :)

Everything is correct. I don't understand...

Are you sure that the FGD even supports model displaying?

Well as I said everything worked on my laptop and I'm using same HHD.
How to check it?

Are the models/sprites used by the FGD present in VHE/Sledge folder ?

I had a similar problem recently. That models show up or not has nothing to do with the actual editor you use. The data is defined within your original game FGD. file how some have already pointed out.

So perhaps you might be using a different FGD file on your lap top I don't know. And yes of course you also need to link to your mod folder aka sprites & models folder.

To make monsters visible in the editor instead of having them as squares check this out:

Where can I download fgd? So I know it is not fgd fault. Also - do I need both halflife.fgd and zhlt.fgd?

Use this one. This fgd file was released at the same time Hammer 3.5 (the standalone exe) was released on the VERC Collective. You can view an archived version of that particular page right here.

Anything wrong?

Apart from a very unusual directory set up (which may be the cause... I don't know), I see no issues.

But seriously, who installs to the desktop folder!? I have all my HL modding tools in the HL directory. Makes setup and file searching so much faster. :rly:

Did you actually extracted all the model (mdl) files into the valve\models folder?

You want to have all the game models extracted into that directory. That's the relative path that the fgd code is referencing to find the actual model for a given entity such as monsters, weapons and ammo, so that it can display the model in Hammer.

All the files are in there now by default anyway. I think one of the updates did it. Still, worth checking

AngryCarrot, No I have not extracted anything, this is just stock Half-Life version from steam.

Urby, what update? What do I check?

Goto your common\Half-Life\valve\ folder and look if there's a model folder with all the mdl files in it. If it is, then you should have models visible in Hammer.

Yes that folder exists. I guess without it game would give me an error trying to play it...

GOOD NEWS! I fixed it. It was fgd fault all this time. Don't know why, because it worked on my laptop before, anyway, my friend send me his fgd and now everything works.

Thanks for help anyway.

Yeah, if you were using a new install of Hammer, the halflife.fgd would have been the standard one that comes with Hammer (aka. the one without model support)

You must have been using an updated FGD on the laptop.
