It doesn't look very good. The graphics look like they're trying to hard to be 90s rather than actually BEING 90s graphics. It just doesn't look very visually appealing.

Yeah not sure about this one. On the other hand, I'm definitely looking forward to Strafe.

I'm not looking forward to strafe either. It suffers from the same problems as this too.

I was briefly following this game but it does look like a bit of a dud, unfortunately. I love a low-poly/low-fi aesthetic, but this doesn't really look like it's trying there. It takes real talent to make a low-poly model with a convincing amount of implied detail. These look like a bunch of triangles hurriedly slapped together, which wouldn't have made the grade even in the early 90's.

I shouldn't judge too harshly from one trailer but the level design also looks like it's made of long, straight corridors, barren outdoor arenas and simple, boxy houses, none of which are very true to any of the games it's name-dropping. Doom is known for sprawling, non-linear, abstract levels that still managed a tonne of height variation, and Quake used it's 3D engine to push for proper verticality, complexity and overlapping pathways. This trailer just feels disingenuous.

But you never know. The guns look quite punchy, the movement looks fast, and the way you can tumble upside down for totally free aiming while airborne looks pretty cool. There also seems to be a quick slide/dash move in there that could be fun. I might still check it out... if the price is right.

I was surprised it's getting so much attention since it looks like a mediocre quake 1 mod and usualy you can find more interesting stuff on MOD DB.

It looks worst than the games made with CUBE or FPSMaker...

That is far more appealing in terms of visuals.

As for this DUSK thing? I'm not sold on it. It looks lacking by 90s shooter standards, which is impressive... but in a bad way.

The gameplay looks suitably fast-paced, but the trailer didn't really show whether or not the enemy AI was a good fit for that kind of gameplay, and the art style is... Well let's just say they're putting too much effort into keeping with the technical limitations of the 90s, especially in terms of colour palette.

Deadlocked looks beautiful, though, and I suspect it has something to do with being based on a 2D prototype, and them trying to keep that aesthetic while jacking it up to 11 in 3D. Them pixels are great, and the colours are nice and vibrant while still being clean.

I like it much more than DUSK, it looks like "Metroid Prime: Hunters" of the Nintendo DS, donĀ“t you think so?

See, that there is far, far better than any of the models in DUSK.
Good work, I have no idea how to put that much detail into that few pixels.

Yep, that looks great kruk. It shows exactly what all the DUSK models are missing, particularly that you actually put some thought into the joints, shadows and highlights.

Perhaps a little high poly compared to the games DUSK is imitating, I don't remember heads being that round back in the 90s!

The art style reminds me of Strafe's which already is a bad thing... The sprites that the guy made also aren't very good and lack a lot of detail.
