this will be my first major map for multiplayer it is a underwater lab with 2 bases conected by a tunnel it will be a opposing force CTF map

Screenies: press f5. (they are stored in sierra/half-life as mapname0000.bmp)

Alternatively you can press Print Screen, top-right of the keyboard, and then paste it into something like IrfanView. That program might be useful for converting the BMP (very large filesize) to a JPG for showing your screenies on the 'net.

IrfanView is free. Paint is utterly useless since the compression settings can't be adjusted, and also since quite a lot of the versions can't even save as JPEGs.

paint is the basic for a lot of textures used in hl and other mods becasue its so simple. you can make the basic layout wiht it to work on wiht a prog like photoshop

Paint can be usefull although it doesn't have so much functions. It's main power in my eyes is it's simplicity. I always use paint to make the base-form of a texture.
But it's personal preference-based off course.
