If youve read my other posts, then you'll know about my project I'm working on at University.

I have to write in a report of mine for my uni project why I chose to use Worldcraft over 3D Studio Max.

I need quite a few good reasons, and the main reason I did choose Worldcraft was because it was quick and easy to make what I wanted, and then I could explore my level via the Half-Life game engine, instead of just viewing a 3D Preview of my level. Plus it's easier to get the right angles with a moving character over a camera.

Cheers guys :)

Sorry Can't help you there, never tried 3D Studio Max,
But just think Worldcraft was made for half-life--
...Now take this into account---
What is 3D Studio Max for? Creating maps, yes.
Half-Life maps, sure.
But was it specifically designed to create HL Maps. Or just a 3D world??

Anyways... I really don't know what Im talking about- I never even try'd
3D Studio Max---Oh wait, Isn't
Studio Max an Expensive program, theres your motive, You can get Worldcraft/Hammer for free... Anyways... Later.

neh. a 3d modeler is way more fun then mapping. but it isnt really good for a game like hl. becasue you would easily be over the limit of frames

3D SMax is a powerful tool - my copy of Max5 barely runs on my computer - man those programs love to suck memory.

But why Hammer over 3D Max? Well, first of all - Hammer and Half-Life go hand in hand - they compliment each other very well.

Secondly, 3D Max is way too overpowerful for the relatively low-tech half-life engine (half life 1, mind you). it'd be like using a crane to contruct a house of toothpicks, if you ask me.

I dont think you have any argument other than the fact it was designed for mapping, 3d studio max is a hell of a lot better and I think it would be a lot easier to learn it from scratch, rather than the limitations of the hl engine.

I'm not sure cyber-drugs was necessarily compelled to produce a game level anyway?
