I'm making a certain map based on the theme of horror. I found some very creepy sounds that I really liked and creeped me out. The small problem is that i cant get them to work. I put them in the ambiance_generic entity but it wouldn't play. Any ideas?

I also want to make things float around in the air (like in Xen). How do I do this?

Are these sounds in the right format? .wav files, 8-bit, 22000 KhZ or 11000 KhZ (both work but for talking sounds you'll need 11000 KhZ, otherwise the mouth of a creature won't move) and mono, that's what they have to be.

Also, did you place the sounds in the right folder and refer to them correctly? You don't have to write a full path but a relative path, where the valve folder is the root so to say so that can be left out.

wait... I know what I did wrong! Thanks Captain P!

now I just need to know about the floating objects.

Floating things? Just place a brush in the air... it'll stay were it is. When you want a slowly moving thing, you could go with a func_train. Well, lots of possibilities... Just search trough the available entities a bit. Anyway, only func_pushable's will fall to the floor so don't worry about the floating.

Included looping HL sounds will loop automatically.

Custom ones? Search.

I mean I need help with using stuff like Ambiant_generic

I cant get it to actually play.

Add an ambient_generic ent to the map.
Open the properties dialogue and choose a *.wav file from you 'sound/..' folder.
Go to the flags tab and choose a sound radius.
Usually, if the 'not toggeled' and the 'start silent' flags are off, the sound should be playing all the time. If you don't need to toggle it on/off at any time, don't give it a name.

Browse to the sound using the button, don't type it. Every time I type the name it doesn't work.

thats probobly why only about... 3 of my entities work on a single map. :zonked:

Yep. Applies to the majority of entities.
All but triggers, I believe.

Some entities can be set to be instantly active, look at their flags. You'll find out with some experimenting.
