Hi, I am LlamaRama and have just joined these forums. I have been mapping, mostly single player for HL, for about two years. I have never released a map other than a CS map I loaded onto my local LAN cafe which took the form of two skyscrapers with glass bridges inbetween.

And yes! I do have a question! I have never experienced this problem before, but my func_rotating's are refusing to make their noises. I am using the generic fan sounds from the list in entity properties, but they do not play in game. I am also having difficulty where I haven't before with the XYZ alignment of my fans- they refuse to turn the way I want. Any suggestions?

A thousand thanks in advance,
LlamaRama

welcome!

make sure the volume field has a high number in it, preferably 10. also check the flags for the sounds radius. laso check game sound settings and make sure your speakers are working/plugged in right.

btw, please make your thread name on topic. hokey pokey pig in a pokey has no reference to mapping WHATSOEVER chum.

well, its true.

(While looking in the overhead view)
  • X axis is laeft to right.
  • Y axis is up and down.
  • Z axis is straight in.

I've been here for three months....time does not tell how much of a n00b you are, its determination to learn how to map and to continue mapping and learning skills that does.

[quotethey refuse to turn the way I want[/quote]

Look at a view which shows the fan blades face-on. The axis the fan should rotate about is the one that isn't in the name of the viewport; i.e. if the viewport is "x/y" then it should rotate on the Z-axis.

Hi,

I have the fan set up correctly and the sounds are there in the .pak file, but it still won't work! All other game sounds play fine...

??

Does the same to me. I reckon you have to set the sound manually in the "WAV file name" property. Haven't corrected it in my own map yet.

Some progress- it's spinning the right way but still no sound. I have tried typing fans/fan4.wav into the WAV name and the Fan Sounds Box with no success.
