I am planning on making a short series of levels based in a city that has been constructed souly for scientific research. As i'm working on it i will post screenies of levels and skins here.

So far I'm considering making it a custom game file but for now its just a few ideas codenamed "Project X1"

I will add screenies soon so watch this space.

Cheers,
Urban :badass:

Please don't make too many 'kill 5 grunt, pick up ammo, walk 10 metres, kill 4 grunts, ...' scenes. We've had an awfull lot of those lately.
Is there a website featuring information about your project. Or will you make one?

Screenies: Sometime before 1st July.

Current release date: 20th July. (Going away for 2 weeks soon sorry) :zonked:

You don't have to pay for webspace.
There are tons of free web space providers. And if you know PHP, you can easily get around their advertisement adds.

Whooooo, a dreadful thought.

What do you mean by 'SD scientist model'. What does the SD stand for?

Aha!
Are the High-def ones not high enough for you?
Do you know the HL improvement team? I think they do things like that.

HIT. Yeah i searched. I got one now anyway. :D

NO i need SD

Ok now. Official news right here so listen up!:

Project X1 has been named. The mod is called "Unforeseen Gathering"

Story so far: You are Gordon Freeman. After a rather considerable raise from the G-man, Freeman is sent to a laboratory city deep underground known only as Neonite City. The city is inhabited only by the most experienced scientists and security personnel. Gordon has been tipped off by the G-man that the scientists in Neonite are preparing to engage a new rift generator. "A step forward in the world of space travel"...so they say.

Screenies very soon. :)

English..? Americans..?
CONSPIRACY AND MURDER! Btw, im swedish ;)

The screens look nice, maybe alittle repetetive texturing... it looks flat.

The area could use some... well, more convincing stuff. I mean, a spore room with a sort of overview plateau, but nothing that looks like scientific machinery and stuff. A control panel on that plateau would be nice, as well as cryogenic tubes around the spores. Instead of a plateau, create a sort of overviewing control room, hidden behind glass, reachable trough some other corridors instead of a path that leads trough the spore room. Maybe these spores are dangerous in some way, maybe the vent poison into the air and the control room needs to check the air now and then, some ventilators would be good then.

Just suggestions, but the room definitely needs some more in it. Now it's too barren, to unconvincing. It's also a too boxed room. Well, I hope this is somewhat helpfull to ya, to make it better... :)

Yeah, it really is. We have a problem now though. No more updates for two weeks. ARGH!!! Still 2 weeks in Greece! Get in!

Another thing to add. This is just a beta map and is not connected to the actual levels that i have started creating. Infact it is called "beta.bsp!" I have created 5 rooms in this map so far. I am going to add more detail to all of them when i get back. They are basically non functional demo rooms that i use to get an idea on what to include later on in the game.

That's ok. However, it isn't so inviting to post low-quality screenshots. I mean, you want to give off a good impression, right? ;)

But we'll see. We'll see.

It takes forever to post high quality images on my site. Well my forum. :D

Ok so here are some updates of my beta room.

Better already. I'd still go for a control room, the control platform now can only be reached trough the spore room. If these specimens were dangerous or fragile or anything like that, it wouldn't be good to have people running trough the room everytime they want to monitor them.

I'd also go for the tubes around the spores. They are alien specimens and maybe they're not very adaptable to our environments and therefore need specific conditions in order to stay alive. Humidity controls, air pressure, such things could all have effect and instruments that monitor and maintain these factors are off course visible to some extend (or integrated into the walls or such). And off course a lot of screens and control panels would then be necessary.

All this to establish the feeling that you're in a real lab. Those newest screenshots look better already but still don't have it. The lab look. Some other textures might work better, as well as some more contrasting lighting. Dark ceiling, greenish glowing tubes that contain spores... walkways that are lit with floorlights, giving such a futuristic, gloomy feeling... Oh, the inspiration! :P
Posted 19 years ago2004-07-01 05:32:02 UTC Post #37939
I think some better textures might also look better....I find those particular lab textures more lab-officy than lab-lab, if you get what I mean. I think maybe those green panels might look kind of cool, combined with some machinery on the walls, one or two of them removed for maintenance, with the equipment behind exposed, and definitely some darker lighting might do the trick, like maybe removing those fifties ceiling lights (Maybe the spores are sensitive to white light, so the room is lit dimly with that blue light from the little lights in front of the spores, or something). It needs more clutter (the perfect word I was looking for!), like more equipment, computers, trim, cables, machinery, useless gadgets that look like they do something important, decals, signs, valves, gearboxes, (lol), but add more! Detail in single-play is what captivates the player.

I'm gonna go with CP that a control room would be good. You could do some interesting architecture or texture(s) on it and make it stand out a little bit, that rail just doesn't really cut it. Alternatively, make that little platform a monitoring station for that vent that goes right into it and add some pipes, dials, vents, steam, ambient sounds....the possibilities are endless! I'm looking forward to seeing what will come out of this, the improvement over the original pics is excellent, and I want to see what you can do with your mapping skills.

Good luck!

Wow! Cheers. I kinda wish i didn't have to go to Greece now.

Only kidding. It's a holiday after all. Maybe a break from work / college is just what i need for inspiration. When i get back i have no college for 9 weeks. Good thing! I can rework this map and show you what i come up with.

Cheers. ;)
