I've got scripted sequence set up where Barney draws his gun - this action triggers the shootgun animation straight after it, yet when it happens, he draws the gun and his hands snap back to his sides before lifting them up again jerkily and then shooting. How do I make it into one motion?

You'd have to use both the draw and disarm animations somehow.

This is a common HL bug.
Playing different animations in a row mostly cause this "flip" effect.
You could combine the animations with milkshape or so.
