In the C:Program FilesValve Hammer Editorprefabs file folder, there are prefab files that have prefabricated objects. I think it would be a good idea to have a section devoted to prefabs. Putting an object in a map takes more space than just including it in the prefab.

Well yes I got a lil' confused with wut u said but I do think TWHL should have a prefab section.

TWHL is a mapping site. Not prefab site. I suppose we could maybe have a link to some prefab sites.

Well, prefabs have alot to do with mapping...

No it doesn't. If you are a good enough mapper, prefabs do nothing.

Let me tell you something davideo59:

Most prefabs are for n00bs who can't make it themselves.

Ahem: most. I occasionally dot Black Mesa stuff around because I know people will recognise and go "oh, Black Mesa".

I did say 'most' Seventh, because they do come in handy sometimes. Although they are overused quite a bit.

I know

You can put up 1 or 2 prefabs in the MV probably. I had a prefab up in the vault a while ago and it didn't get deleted.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Prefabs can be found on various sites, for those that really seek them.

As for my opinion on prefabs: since they're overused by so many mappers I wouldn't go with prefabs. The prefab system however can be used quite handy, in case of objects that appear frequently in your maps (light-bulbs, things like that).
But that's just me... ;)

I'd only make prefabs to save me copy pasteing and constantly. Its stupid to have a map comprised of other peoples work and calling it 'your' map.

Prefabs are for lazy people - that's why I use them. (Well, sometimes - But I usually make them)

I make all my own prefabs, stuff like a custom des kand chair and a nuclear rocket, I made them all myself even if i did blatently base them on other stuff.

If you use other people's prefabs you should give credit to that in the Readme.txt file, I think, but people don't have to upload their prefabs if they don't want to, so it's not like they're stealing other mapper's work. When people make mod's, they often don't do it onlone, they work together with other people.

I agree with David, that prefabs have a lot to go with mapping. Trapt, you said this is a mapping and that it should have a prefabs section. Well, how do tutorials, forums, and competitions have anything more to do with mapping than prefabs? They all contribute to the site and make TWHL what it is.

But I thought TWHL was about learning/teaching and creating. Making ready made things for others to fill their maps with doesnt help anyone. That said, theres nothing wrong with LOOKING at other peoples prefabs, but I think that using them is a bit weak (plus they'd stand out like a sore thumb in maps I do, as they'd be higher quality :P )

Prefabs aren't very useful in my opinion. Many 3rd party prefabs, if you get what I mean, contain invalid solids and can cause compiler errors.
If you use other people's prefabs you should give credit to that in the Readme.txt file, I think, but people don't have to upload their prefabs if they don't want to, so it's not like they're stealing other mapper's work.
If we lived in a perfect world, custom prefabs would be credited in readmes. However, I almost NEVER see credit when a prefab I can recognize is used in a map. It not only shows laziness in the mapper for their obvious lack of dedication to the map to create their own prefabs, but is almost insulting to the prefab author to have their work stolen in such a way.
