Is there a way to set the skill level of a map or to allow selection of a skill level before the map is played? Some monsters are too easy to kill.

I was wondering this myself. If you figure out a way to set the skill level while making a map change maybe you can type that in the DOS Shell or compile options window. Also is there a way to set flags when giving an item during game play? Like, I want a suit with a short logon? I tried a few things like: give item_suit 1 and give item_suit (1) but they didn't work.

There is a skill cvar. Try 'skill', just type it into the console to check the current value. Type 'skill #' to change it.
You cannot force the game to use a certain skill level though, it's the player's decision.

three maps, a teleporter at a start point, with easy normal hard written above them, then jusat copy the map, and put more monsters in.
for short login, under teh suit's Flags, there is an option, tick it

Thanks for the suggestions. Of course, hazardous, you're correct. Shoulda' looked at it that way.

Peace and Love - neat idea. Made me think about 3 buttons at the level start (easy, med, hard) and using that to control monstermakers. That could get a little complicated.

Thanks all.
